I had two of the original Cinquecentos in the 1960s. Two cylinders, 479 cc, 14 hp. One was the sedan, and the other was a Bianchina coupe with a rollback roof. The sedan had the optional 499.5 cc Sport engine that made about 7 hp more. They were a lot of fun in the city, and if you really tried, they could be backed into the corners like any rear engined car of that time. They had non-syncro gearboxes and I learned to heel-and-toe on them. Abarth even made a 2 pipe exhaust system for them.

Mine was the 18th delivered in the U.S. market last March. Will have 30,000 mile on it in the next week or two.

Very nice. My wife finds herself attracted to them. Can you give us\me a brief overview of your experience so far?

Thanks.

Ahh,

Not true...

The dealer that told You that must not want to sell cars !
I have been wanting to drive one of the Abarths ever since I saw the commercial with Charlie Sheen...

So my wife and I were in the Sacramento area this past Saturday and stopped in to check out the Fiats in person. I hadn't read much of this thread prior to that so I didn't know that the Abarths were "sold out"
The first vulture that preyed on us had NO idea of what an Abarth was when I asked...as he led us over to a rather large assortment of regular 500's, so as I asked again since I didn't see any in this group, he suggested that he better go get his "Sales Manager" ! Good idea because I was already getting ready to leave in disgust !
So out comes an older gentleman wearing a Fiat shirt, and I asked him if they had any Abarths and he led us into the nice cool showroom...did I mention it was 104-105ish outside ? He led us to the center of the showroom where there Customer waiting area and Service Dept. and Parts dept./boutique was located and here sat two 500's a white cabrio and a gun metal gray Abarth He starts going over all of the features and explains the options, etc.
I sit in the drivers side and am amazed at the room...I am 6'2" and own a 1964 Mini S so I wasn't sure what to expect. So my next question is do they have an Abarth that we can drive ? The salesman kind of stalled and gave me the story that they really didn't want to rack up miles and I can understand but at the same time I don't want to drive a regular 500 if I'm interested in the performance side of things that the Abarth features. So, he says he'll go talk to his boss and comes back with a smile and says they have a white one we can drive...
So we jump in...all 3 of us, ugh ! I guess no matter how old Ya are they can still detect that "let's see what it'll do" look ! So with the salesman in the back and my wife shotgun we take off, to get some gas before we can really see what it'll do. Later the salesman said he appreciated me semi-idling it to the gas station. Next we go down a few blocks and take an exciting on ramp onto I-80... Had it up to 70 before I merged on and then the salesman spoiled it somewhat by alerting me to the fact we were quickly approaching a CHP ahead of us 2 lanes over ! DAMN ! The little shit can get ! And it sounds sooo good doin' it ! Even at an idle !
Of course neither of the ones they have in stock are equipped the way I wanted, so I think I'll sit back and wait until the 2013's come out and order one the way I want.
When we got back to the dealer he tried to rope me into one of those two and did spend a few minutes on the computer seeing if there was anything equipped/color available somewhat close that they could acquire. Notta...but I think if this dealer had 2 unsold Abarths that there are probably others across the country !
So......In a nut shell, this is a fun little car for the money and one You shouldn't see as often as the Mini S !

It was a press release by Fiat.

Sergio is a fucking liar.

Well, for FIAT they are sold (to dealers). So the dealership was misinformed, but the FIAT announcement could be correct.

Wow 30K? You are one of the higher mileage 500 owners I've heard of yet. Any problems to speak of?

I am guessing a lot of those cars that were 'sold', were sold to people who just said they wanted one but didn't put any money on it. I wonder if that would impact dealer allocations. The Indy Fiat dealer has 2 Abarths as well, at least.

I think there are probably quite a few people who would like a little more pep without going full Abarth.

I wouldn't expect any resale value on my car anyway but even so the 500T is going to be a couple thousand more than the Sport.

Personally my budget allowed the Sport that I bought and the availability of the 500T at the time of my purchase would not have made a difference.

The dealer I bought my 500 from is showing 19 Abarths on their lot right now.

I think it's a cool option to have the sport, 500T and Abarth. I think I would still buy the sport if I were to get one as it would be for a short commute vehicle.
I saw a light green 500C the other day on the freeway, followed by a Mini- and was kind of surprised at how much smaller the Fiat looked compared to the Mini.

I just read up on the 'sold out' message. Looks like Fiat tripled production of the Abarth after they 'sold out' in June.
