A good place to start is - http://www.motogp.com.au/
Weather - could be anything - check forecasts closer to the event - but dont let that affect your decision to go or not.

Just saw that a round of the Australian Super Cross will be staged at the Moto GP up near Lukey Heights. This will be included in the admission price of the Moto GP.

I hope they don't expect us to flag at that one as well.

I've got a few notes on my (non-commercial) website HERE that may be helpful for first-timers, re availability and cost of food at the track, what to take, what to wear etc. And a ride-report HERE including what pie shop to avoid in Cooma.

Photo: wish we'd read the friggin report BEFORE buying this shite pie.

This'll be my sixth trip down. For the first time I'm considering flying, then by bus/train from the airport to Crib Point (south of MEL) and then ferry over to Cowes. Pick up some food and meths (for the cooker!) then over to HighSide to set up the tent.
EDIT: Dammit. With daylight saving I lose an hour flying down so can't get there in time to connect to the noon ferry on Thu (goes 8am, noon, 5pm). Will take train/bus to Cowes.

I took this video in October 2011. It shows the Sunday traffic to PI at 8:43 am and back after the race.

Unfortunately, the battery discharged at my way back, and you can't see people who were greeting motor bikers after Casey's victory.

The weather is... Victorian. If you don't like it, just wait for 15 minutes - it will change!

Rod, the trip is worth it if not just to see these machines live to get an understanding for the sheer speeds and talents of these riders on one of the best tracks in the world. I have been each of the last 6 years and except for one year of shitty weather the rest have been excellent and the assortment of bikes you see parked around the place is simply amazing. The bike parking is within 2 minute walk of the main gates and the best view can be had at Siberia but you have to be early to grab a spot on the hill. When I leave the track I head to Cowes and grab a coffee or some dinner which kills 1-2 hours and then the traffic has thinned out enough so you simply ride/drive straight off the island and back to Melbourne within 2 hours,

So who's going down? Who is working there, flagging, medical etc? Do you want to have a meet-up over a beer?

Thanks to Bootlace, I've signed up to go flagging again (last time I did that was in 2001 and got hypothermia!) and will be camping at the officials camp ground. I'm currently rebuilding a 'repairable write-off' to ride down (pictures later)

The race date works out really well, as there is no Dirt Track racing the weekend before/on/after the GP.

So, who's in?

We get accommodation at the Eco resort, so as much as I like camping the warm and dry cabins wins.

I always tick the camping pass for friends box and I've already given them away to two guys from here.

I think I've seen Bootlace's bike but I've never met him. Not sure if KTMPaul is going this year....

Just booking the camp ground and was wondering whether the trackside campgound gets a bit too rowdy or is worth the extra bucks?

I do like to party but I also like to watch the racing the next day with some reasonable sleep beforehand. I stayed in the high side a few years back and had a ball. I am travelling over with some buddies but camping alone as I missed out on a spot at the house (I'd rather stay at the track anyway).

Camped trackside last 3 times I have been there. Shagged at the end of the weekend, you don't get much sleep

Fireworks, engines without any pipes going all night, and just a lot of people crammed into a small area partying all night.

Having said that it is great to be so close to the track and you meet some very interesting people
