Yes. 2010 F8GS 10,000 miles, just started last month before I put the bike away for winter. No idea, figure i'd bring it in to dealer in the spring as my valve cover has started leaking oil.

It's caused by the gear indicator switch not counting correctly. It started happening on mine from around 20,000 miles. If you tap the foot lever again it will engage, but doesn't fix the problem.
When I had my gearbox removed to fix a 5th gear whine, the switch was apparently OK. Once reassembled problem has gone and dealer believes it was a bad connection on the switch leads. |

Mine has occasionally been undecided whether it's in 4th or 6th, continually flashing between the two. Seems to sort itself out eventually.

When shifting mine from first to second it will sometimes not display a "2"; instead the display will be blank. Shifting up from there will display a "3" so it must be a problem with the sender.
It will also pop out of second gear into neutral every so often. Really fun when rolling off the throttle in second for a tight turn and freewheeling instead of engine breaking.

Thanks all for the replies!!!
Been out of town watching my "6" blinking .I'll mention it to the tech with my other minor issues. Damn, I love me a California "January"... it's been in the mid sixties. Back to work tomorrow. Cheers, S.

You weren't out today then \
![]() Heavy fog/light rain all along the coastal areas. No viz :( However my 2011 F650 gs has picked up a few new tricks. These are not 100% repro issues -_-. Either it will a) display the correct gear b) flash the correct gear or c) just have a blank space where the gear should be. I can't seem to reliably reproduce the issue but Ill take what Ive seen in this thread and let the tech know next time the bike is in. |

Got the same kind of problem since today on my 2008 F650GS .
It doesnt display the N of "Neutral" any more and also do not display 5th and 6th Gear. BTW when is in neutral and the side stand is out it stopped the engine like if a gear were engaged, and if i pull the clutch lever the engine continue running. IT looks to be mad ![]() This was my first failure after just 15000km

Have your gear position sensor re-calibrated, they can wear out of spec. When the MOSS PC is working and when the servers are actually working, this is very quick on Motorrad's new tool.
If that doesn't work, replace the GPS. There is a warranty code for both of these jobs and my personal opinion is both of these are no-brainer warranty situations, others may differ. If neither of these are effective, I'm pretty stumped. I can think of a lot of possibilities but they are all far fetched and theoretical. Your CANNbus terminator, the cap on the cable under the back seat is still plugged in, right? This can cause all sorts of odd problems. Good luck, ride fast and have fun.

I've noticed that when it is raining and/or the bike is wet the gear indicator goes blank.
Sometimes it takes me a bit to figure out what is missing in that big area on the display.

Interesting because the dealer here in Chicago indicated "that happens". Perhaps I should come and visit the Gateway Arch city.

Me and many of my customers ride in the rain all the time. "that happens" is truthful in that since you have told your dealer it happens, obviously it happens :) But it's not normal If I can duplicate it with a garden hose or by riding in the rain, I can fix it. If I can't duplicate it, I would still sure as hell try. I'm always up for meeting new people and I'm a bit of a freak in that strange and hard to solve problems excite me :) As to others with a gps that randomly doesent work, especially between certain gears, seen that. Usually a recalibration fixes it. A recalibration is quick and easy. The system does slowly learn over time, so sometimes it will fix itself. Often though, the gps itself is breaking and will have to be replaced. Ride fast, have fun!
