The guys who start their auctions with such ludicrous prices are "fishing". If no one bids, they re-list, sometimes at a lower price, sometimes taking advantage of ebays occasional free listings or "Didn't Sell" offers.

I watch Triumph parts, too. One guy has listed a '75 Trident about a jillion times. I often think he does it just to get his SO off his back: "See, I'm trying to sell it. I don't understand why no one is bidding!".

Yeah, the statement about running condition is pretty laughable. The price though doesn't seem too wildly out of left field. In all probability there are a good number of very usable parts in that engine. A low mileage bottom end is probably worth a good $150. An untitled frame is worth maybe $50, swingarm $40, trans maybe $150-200 in unknown condition. Charging system and assorted covers, airbox etc, another $100-150 all parted out.
