Solar Eclipse at Sunset (photos)

I spent the day today out at the local lake with the family. I stayed late to photograph the 90% solar eclipse that happened later. I shot a huge amount of photos using a 9 stop ND filter and will soon turn them into a movie file. It was great as I could see the sun spots during the eclipse using just my Tair 3 300mm lens and that ND filter.

Later, during the end of the eclipse, I took off the filters and shot some solar eclipse sunsets.

Here is one of them.

That unfiltered shot with the birds is phenomenal, well done

Thanks everyone! The landscape shot was very difficult to capture well. I had to fully stop down the aperture, and still had to use 1/2000 sec. at 100 ISO to not blow out the sun too much, which left not much detail in the foreground. I like the effect though.

If you look close, you can actually see the moons outline all the way around. I may try redoing the processing on this or another image to make that a little more prominent.

Here's another version of the first image above. A little more post processing was done to bring out the moon's disc that is slightly visible in the first version.

A few lens dust specs were also removed

Very nice shots! I'm still working on mine, and probably will be for a while! My wife and I were in the mountains above Kanarraville, UT about 3.5 miles from the central line of the eclipse. We had two DSLR's going. One had a cheap Rokinon 800mm mirror lens, the other had a Tamron 28-75mm zoom with the focal length set at what I thought was 35mm (turned out to be 33mm close enough! ). Each had a homemade Baader Astrosolar film filter attached. We took five bracketed Raw shots at five minute intervals up to annularity and then shot as fast as the cameras could recover for the annular stage, then back to five minute intervals after. The Astrosolar film gives a really neutral white color to the sun. This is slightly corrected from the camera's slight blueish tint:

Great photos, everyone!

I was at the office, so this is all I could muster out my 3rd floor window:

Magnifier (reading glasses), white paper, cell phone cam...
