Looks like a great 'long weekend' ride. Thanks for putting it together, proofing it and sharing for others.

On to gas in Cable.

A nice thing about running the national forest in this region is the combination of seasonal forest roads and ATV paths.

The ATV designated trails are pretty much dirt.

The seasonal forest roads are a bit dimmer and are often grass or grassy two tracks.

On toward Phillips.

While gassing up in Cable we saw why we hadn't met many ATVs on the ATV trail segments that we rode (even on a Saturday).

Looked like they were having some kind of fundraiser or a club event.

We were pretty lucky with the weather so far. Big storms in the forecast for tomorrow though.

We had a little rain on the day we started on the trail. It was nice when it kept down the dust.

I had to include a stretch of pavement in here that was longer than I liked. Couldn't get around it as there were a couple of rivers and a lot of private property in the way that limited my usual preferences. No big deal, but let me be frank: by this time you will have been getting a pretty good beating all the way down from Bayfield and will be pretty worn out. Although you might not admit it to your friends, you will be secretly thanking me for this little rest. Especially since this is a 285 mile day.

Thanks Tom. I am glad I was able to come up with a long dirt ride (and a loop ride) with a lot of off road paths for small dual sports here in Wisconsin. It took a while to work it out but it turned out to be a pretty entertaining ride. A fast crew that runs very long days can do it with a day of travel to and four trail days. A more deliberate rider or someone who wants to take in the sights should plan for a day to travel to and six trail days. It is a comfortable week long ride or a more taxing ride of fewer but longer days.

For those that are familiar with the UPAT, I built that into a figure 8 configuration so that you could park a support vehicle in the middle and ride each of the ends over a period of days. This allowed you to swing back to your vehicle for maintenance and resupply about halfway through the ride. It also allows for shorter recovery if you break down. Someone could do that with this ride by basing in the Woodruff area. You would have to make some adjustments as far as timing the segments. The way we are riding it now works out well because it makes the last day shorter to allow for travel time to get home. Personally, I'd ride it starting in Mountain, but someone coming from MN would probably want to start on the west side.

I'll share more information about planning your own ride on this further along in the thread.

On to Woodruff.

Smith Rapids bridge.

There is a logging dam you can visit along the track.

Last time I was there some people harvested a bear nearby.

This guy overtook me on the trail.

A long day with a lot of miles.

The forests are great. I am a little disappointed even after scouring that huge area we couldn't come up with any true motorcycle single track trail. But . . . we're working on that.

Heading toward Three Lakes and beyond.

We start this segment with a remarkably sporty piece of winding pavement between Eagle River and Three Lakes. Very nice ride.

Looks like Ben lost that shroud after all.

Zed's set up.

I posted a link in the first post of this thread for people to use to download the GPX for this ride.

Haven't gotten to the end of the path yet . . . more to come. Those that take the trip will find that the riding stays good right to the end.

Great ride report and photos! Subscribed!

My wife is from the Cable / Drummond area and it looks like the trail comes pretty close their property near Lake Owen. Might be a nice ride for us when we visit this summer.

She's fairly new on a 650GS and I'm on a 1200GSA. Any tips on which sections we should bypass on bigger bikes and a newish rider?

Thanks!
