I've heard all the horror stories but really can't contribute. I was there last July/August, 6 million acres alight, the fires and smoke were way more hazardous than the bugs. Didn't really hit any bugs 'til after Dawson, heading east.

This was after 3 weeks on the road

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family.
Choose a fucking big television.
Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows,
stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth.
Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home,
nothing more than an embarrasment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.
Choose your future. Choose life.
I chose not to choose life, I chose something else instead.

I have enough skeeters already to make the outdoors annoying-I have a feeling that this is going to be a really bad year. There was plenty of snow cover and the winter was fairly mild, so the survival rate was probably on the high side. Give it a month and life will be interesting!
The worst bugs I've experienced were at the Yukon River bridge on the Dalton. They were absolutely unbelievable. I think they used DEET as an aphrodisiac and their tattos were plainly visible.....1%'r bugs all the way. Second worse were at Nancy Lake, I was wearing a mosquito headnet and the bugs almost blocked my vision. I hate skeeters. They have no redeeming qualities unless you are a hungry bat.
HACKSAW: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle. It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes.

Only dead fish go with the flow.

I'm more worried about the yellowjackets! There seem to be quite a few out already, and it isn't even June yet!
