Thumbs down Happy Trails is no bueno

I can understand a few hiccups but when it's only two experiences and both times go wrong, I've had enough.

A while back I purchased a set of foot pegs for my DL1000 from Happy Trails. I waited nearly two weeks before I gave them a ring to check the status of my order. Before then, no tracking or charge to my account. Apparently, they were back ordered up to a month from my date of purchase. No notification, no nothing. Just left me hanging there wondering what the hell was going on. Cancelled.

Two weeks ago from today I decided to give them another shot. I ordered a full set of brake pads for the Strom. I'm running short on time as I'm gearing up for an Alaska trip which takes off two weeks from now. Again, two weeks later from the time of purchase, no updates or tracking. I called and as it turns out, two pairs of the pads were back ordered. The clerk said they arrived in time at their facility to ship the entire set and were set to arrive today. I asked the clerk again, if they were sure the entire set shipped together. "I'm pretty sure," was the reply. How can you not know what you shipped? Well, I got home and sure enough, there was the package. Got inside and opened it up. One set. I'm about the have an aneurism.

I guess $100 in brake pads isn't enough to justify priority over a set of $600 panniers.

what does work it out mean and how would that change what happened? maybe I don't understand but it doesn't seem relevant. his post is full of facts.

My post wasn't really intended to bash Happy Trails. From the posts I've searched on this forum, they seem to have a very good reputation.

I'm not too keen in the business and supply world but I would hope suppliers know what they do and do not have on hand once an order is placed. If I knew something was back ordered for a while, I would give the customer a heads up on the situation.

Sure, I can speak to the clerk or a manager and suggest ways to make their company better but would the suggestions get anywhere after the conversation? If it were me, I'd hang up and continue about my day until it was time to go home (not to say that the people of HT would do this. Just basing off of a previous experience with another company). If I bring the issue here, maybe the the point will get across because now I'm exploiting their problems publicly. I've seen HT posts on here so maybe they lurk.

If my OP came across as a bashing, it wasn't intended to be so. It was just a heavy venting.

I ordered some wolfman stuff from them and it took a couple of weeks before they shipped to me. I think they order the parts when we order from them, they don't keep any of it in stock but don't say that. Other places do the same, I ordered a TB pipe from a website that said 'in stock'. Well it turns out they ordered it from TB after I placed the order but it did ship directly. HT's stuff didn't.

Plus a set of the mounting things for the hard bags had one missized one in the package and I messaged but never heard back.

More like welcome to the world of "Just in time" shipping. Nobody stocks anything anymore. It's the result of "Logistix" and other cost-cutting, corner-cutting, penny-pinching, margin-maximizing business management techniques and I will go out of my way not to do business with companies that do it.

In my opinion it's fraud. They are selling something the don't even have.

Ive had enough with HT as well. 3 different orders were either not complete (as in they shipped it in pieces) or they told me it was weeks down the road. This is several weeks after I placed my order. They had a great reputation, and they have some good products...but Im done with them.

As a side note I have had very good shipping from both revzilla and motorcycle superstore recently. items shipped either the same day or the next day.

It seems hit and miss with lots of different companies. HT has been good with me A Vicious cycle has let me down twice then came through with good service the third time Dual sport Plus great one time not so much the second. Still waiting for an answer from Cee bailey. Local shops can be the same. Sure can be frustrating.

I have to agree...

Im pretty underwhelmed with happy trails myself.

I just received the keyed alike lock set for my HT panniers from happy trail.
it took them 4 weeks to send me 3 locks...and when they arrived i find that they are NOT the locks featured in the photos on their website but a lock with a much poorer quality weather cap than the ones shown. the weather caps are pretty much useless, and clearly wont last.

pretty crummy to substitute a junk lock for a quality one you advertise on your website photos.

this is the third time Ive ordered from them and the third time i have received a messed up order.

i doubt ill order from them again.....

+1

Besides Touratech for bike specific farkles, I only purchase from Revzilla and MS. All 3 companies use real time product inventory to the best of my knowledge and returns and exchanges have been very smooth. My first and last experience with HT, they shipped the wrong part and the right part was out of stock so I cancelled my order.
