UK to Norway August 2012
I'm off to Hardangerfjord, Norway in August for the Norseman Triathlon and thought I'd make a holiday of it and take the bike.
Has anyone got any sugestions on getting there? As I see it the only option without going all the way thorugh Holand, Belgium etc is to get the Harwich Esbjerg (Denmark) ferry, none of the other ferries that seem to run anymore. |

There is plenty of ferries from denmark to Norway. The fast ones only take less than 4 hours.
I would take the ferry to esbjerg, ride to Hitrshals, then ferry to Larvik and ride along the coast to Hardanger:) That is a very nice ride! You can also go from danmark via sweeden to norway by bike, but that is a long way and incredible boring roads. check out www.colorline.no for ferry |

There is a freight line runs between Immingham and Brevik who will take private bookings.
We looked at Norway but the thought of such a long drive or expencive ferry journey ate too much into the two weeks. The plan now is to head to the alps, if the Newcastle crossing ever reopens I'll be on it like a flash. Contact imm-norbookings@dfds.com for details/prices.

There are some brilliant riding routes in 'Fjord' Norway. The coast route mentioned is one but also don't miss route 55 across Jotunheimen National Park. Its further north but worth the effort. Route 9 running down to Kristiansand is also quite a scenic route and you can get the ferry back to Hirtshals from there (Kristiansand). |

Hi OneBall!
I was thinking of making a round-trip through UK in the last week of July, then setting of to Nroway and round-trippin' there in the first week of August. So, have the same issue as you. Since there are no other ferrys, I eMailed to the Immingham-Brevik-Route guys yesterday. No answer on pre-booking and pricing so far. Did you have a closer look into the line or a better idea? Best, da olde Olo |

That's what I learned by googling very focused a couple of hours.
Appearantly, they do. With a double cabin and stuff: http://freight.dfdsseaways.com/DFDS_...ngham_ferries/ Hmn, but now I see the phone numbers for the first time...I think its a good idea to give them a holler tommorrow. By the way, do you already hove Spots of Interest in mind? |

Well, I am thinking along those lines, with respect to Norway:
http://maps.google.de/maps?saddr=Bre...ia=2,9&t=m&z=7 Hitting some wooden churches and hitting the bird's isle Runde. Trondheim is not to be missed, for it's marvelous inner city. Geirangerfjord, Jotunheimen... If I skip UK, I'll be going further north. The Trip through UK should cover these cornerpoints: http://maps.google.de/maps?saddr=Kru...,11,12&t=m&z=6 Coming to Aachen and going home from Kopenhavn adds another 1.000 kilometers. Hmn. About 10.000 Kilometers in somewhat 14 days, plus one day ferry...could get messy, so to speak. What do you think? Any suggestions for more POIs or what to skip (to save mileage...)? |

I think that sort of distance in 2 weeks might be a bit much, might be an idea to just do Scotland, via a couple of select places in England.
