Another vote for Plexus.

I used to always use pledge or later the dollar store version for the airplane plexiglass.

Then I found a product that I LOVED, but the company slowed down. They still have the best product, but it can be hard to get. Here is a link to the product page.

The second best I know at this time is Plexus and a cloth diaper for protecting the life of a plastic.

Airplane windows and helmet windows are the same except for the cost and the effort to replace.

Damp (with water) terry cloth towel or terry towel with Plexus from the little bottle. Sometimes Honda spray cleaner/polish.

I grimace every time I see someone use the freaking nasty bug encrusted abrasive thing between the pumps at the gas station

I ride with my shield up 90% of the time, only have to clean it a couple times a year

+1 for Plexus and microfiber cloth. One added benefit is that Plexus helps rain bead off the visor and you can use a damp microfiber cloth in between Plexus applications. The product also treats the plastic so it's good for the visor.

Paper towels scratch, RainX will ruin the plastic over time, gas station squeegees contain sand and grit that will scratch. What you use depends on how much you care about keeping your visor in top shape. (Plexus claims to make small scratches less visible)

I'm interested in testing the pledge concept since Plexus is very expensive. Pledge is for wood products so I would think that it has oil which would smear the visor - anyone have facts on the ingredients found in pledge?

Will Plexus work on Iridium shields, or is that a bad idea?

Clean microfiber cloth and a small spray bottle (3 fo a dolla at Walmart) with a mixture of distilled water and a couple drops of dish soap. Shake it up and spray it on, don't wipe real hard, especially at first. May take a second or third application, use a clean spot on the cloth each time.

Most importantly with plastic, ALWAYS wipe in the same direction. Lesson learned from aircraft windshields.

+whatever for Plexus and microfiber cloth. Works great on windshield, helmet shield, and bike.

So which way would you rub? Up and down or side to side? I am thinking the cleaning strokes should be side to side as it will scratch with some bug guts. I would think side to side mini scratches would be better than an up and down pattern.

cleaning windsheild

I carry two microfiber cloths and a small can of Plexius or Lemon Pledge. I clean the bike windshield in the morning and coat with either product. Microfiber cloth wet in ziplock bag. If I have time to stop I will pull into somewhere with a restroom and soak the wet microfiber with hot water and lay over the windshield. About 5 minutes and all the bug stuff has softened. I wipe off with a wet cloth, dry with a dry cloth and then recoat. Keeping the windshield clean and coated is the trick. Once you scratch the shield with bug shells or paper towels you become an unhappy person. Real important to keep clean if you ride at night.

I use a wee willy (http://www.weewilly.com/) with water and a couple of drops of dish detergent. I have a short elastic cord attached to this and tied to the tank bag. This way, I can clean up on the move without fear of losing the thing if I need to brake suddenly. (Don't do this in traffic, please.)

I also carry an microfiber cloth for even better cleaning while stopped.

another option

On my mom's advice (mom's know best), I use a moist dryer sheet.
Works good at cleaning bug guts off the windshield and I assume the faceshield as well...

Hmm, I must be an anomalie. I throw in some (quality/soft) paper towels, and a small spray bottle of windex. Where I ride I must clean frequently (every ride, multiple times a day on longer rides)
