Tell you what, I'll continue to post whatever info I can to keep the riding folks as updated as I can. Why don't you do us all a favor and go back to playing World of Warcraft or whatever it is you do.
You might want to quit this. I happen to know that Stu is not playing World of Warcraft with his time.

Hint: look at his odometer.

Hint: look at his join date.

Hint: look at yours.

Hey Jim,

I guess if you're on the lower side of the average intelligence mean, you could become a volunteer with this guy and feel pretty good about yourself...........

Agreed. But, the forest is getting beaten up pretty bad. The more its left "unrepaired" the more limited our access is. There are many roads, after the Grand Prix fire for instance, that simply disappeared. They existed for a hundred years, and now they are gone. Not just gated, but completely gone. The resources, taxes or not, aren't there to repair them. So, we can ignore it, bitch about other people volunteering their time to fix it, or jump in and do what we can. I've chosen the later. BTW, they have volunteer OHV crews. You can write off the taxes on your bike, equipment and travel costs (gas) and help maintain all the roads we use, and some that are gated and closed to others. Just a thought.

but....but...I'm soo scared. Look, everyone is entitled to their opinion, mine just happens to be very anti-authority. I *will* ride where and when I want, and if they catch me, go ahead and ticket and impound....but there's a catch. There's a million useless volunteers who can't do a fuggin thing to me, and a FEW LEO's that are very stretched thin, but on the very slim chance I get "caught" riding public lands that I pay for (not too mention pi...er LEO's pay as well) then so be it. I really hope I never ride with some of these people, and if by chance I do, when i find out, I'm gone.

Incorrect! I just checked with my business partner who is a IRS registered agent and auditor, and also owns a large CPA firm here in LB. Unless you are using your motorcycle primarily for volunteer duties, or for a "for-profit" business or "non profit" entity or are donating it to a non-profit, which the USFS is not, you can not write off a single penny of your motorcyle. Also, since the govenrment is not a non-profit organization, you can not write off a single penny for fuel, lodging, etc.

Nice try though.

This guy's too much of a do-gooder to be related me . But I must say that he seems to be as big of an A-hole as my real brother.

Or are you talking about Swiller? He's an A-hole too. But I'll hang with him.

So why can't I ride this "road"? It is part of the landscape already claimed by mankind and built upon. So if hte gov't doesn't want, or doesn't have the resources to maintain it... why can't I just ride it in it's deteriorated state?

Actually, I'm right. You can deduct the amount of:
1. The cost of Gasoline used for travel to and from the volunteer position
2. The cost of Gasoline used during the volunteer position.
3. The bike Taxes (i.e green sticker) used as part of the volunteer position. Or IF the bike is used exclusively for the volunteer position all taxes.
4. Any equipment purchased and used for volunteer position.

Perhaps your friend misunderstood your question, if he didn't, I'd seek someone else to do your taxes

not taking sides but you guys are being, ahem, silly.

if a road is washed out in the National Forest, it's closed. doesn't take a genius to understand this.

if there is an endangered species, stay the fuck out. you're not the only fucking being on this planet.

and don't take this post as pro-forest closure. read my previous post. there are reasons some things get closed. but there are a lot of BS for the other land that's closed cuz one group found a way to close an area cuz they dislike off road recreation.

I hear what Migolito is saying but I also feel that he's made one good point to 2 bad points.

I've been out riding enough times to see jackasses on dirtbikes and quads riding up the side of a hill that's not designated(Baldy Mesa) (Rowher) and that's the shit that will get areas closed. we get lumped into those douchebags.
