Low sided in the Alps

This week we were riding in the Alps and this happened on the old Brenner. In a village our group got separated by a bus that was coming towards us. A car in front of us blocked the road for the bus and had to back up. Some time passed before we could move on, in the mean time the first two riders of our group, were well on their way. The guy in front of me wanted to catch up and pushed it hard, I was just behind him. After a few minutes we rounded a right corner, we were on the mountain side and on coming was a young girl driving a small car. The guy in front of me just lost it in that moment and low sided and the bike (GSA) slid to the car. The bike was badly damaged as the oil dripped from the right cylinder. The front was also badly damaged. Probably TL.
As I was quite close behind him I had to hit the brakes real hard on my GSA and stopped, but was so shaken by the scene that I forgot to stick out a leg and slowly felt the bike going down, no damage here though.

My friend ended spending a night in hospital, I thought nothing was wrong, because he went down surely, but wasn't hit by anything, nor had he hit his head. He was wearing a full leather suit and boots and also a Schuberth full face. Just because he couldn't tell what had happened in that split second they said he had a concussion.

He was definitely riding above his ability, or like the slogan is in Germany, posted along the roads: Don't go faster than your guardian angel can fly...

Glad you and your friend are OK. Sounds like you both realize that it should not have happened and will learn from it, so it will (ultimately) be a very cheap lesson. Good Luck.

Brenner Pass

I remember driving there in my parent's 5 Series and people were too fast for me. Had a Beemer & Benz flash me then fly by and were gone. And I drive fast.
