Hi-Comp KTM 690 Pistons

As a by-product of our quest to build a short-stroke LC4 motor, to reduce it to 450cc for our upcoming Dakar project, we are having a batch of 48 pistons that have been designed & manufactured by Cosworth Engineering here in the UK.
Some of these will be std compression and some higher compression to suit the 654cc & 690cc motors, that is 102mm bore in either 80mm or 85mm stroke.
Std compression pistons will be 11.8:1, and the hi-comp ones will be 13,5:1.
As expected, the quality of these will be second-to-none, and will be supplied with piston rings, gudgeon pin and clips.
We expect delivery by late Feb/early March.
Prices for either version, with ring kit to be 370 plus VAT & shipping.

manual cam chain tensioner

Hi John,

Is it possible to adjust the cam chain tensioner without going through the process of setting to tdc? Or, put another way, can you adjust it while at idle, either hot or cold, by "feel" or sound?

Thanks,

Steve

You can do it whilst ticking over, very carefully tighten it until noise dissapears, with moderate pressure on centre spindle.
BUT DO NOT BACK IT OFF TOO MUCH OR CAM CHAIN COULD JUMP !!!!

I like this idea as well, fitting the original head light to the screen/fairing... how much money would it save?

Mitch,
Please PM me when you have an opportunity. I am trying to purchase something a little outside the box from Rally Raid but am getting no where through the Rally web site email.

Thanks,
Brad

How about you work your magic on some replacement rockers? I wanted Elvis but the 690 seems to have Shakin Stevens

Hello John,

I was wondering if you would have any interest in developing a set of crash bars for the KTM 690. I have seen a set of one off custom bars in the photo below in one of the 690 threads. That design might be a decent starting point. It would be nice if it worked with both your aux tanks and the Safari tank. To the best of my knowledge the only commercial offering for crash bars on the 690 are from Touratech, and I'm under the impression they will not work with an aux front gas tank.
