Yes, yes I know. It´s in the work sheet

I just want to get her dirty for now and maybe on xmas I´ll score some forks. I have buried way too much money on her
and I have to lay back on expenses for a bit.

But she´ll have USDs that´s for sure, along with a nice flatslide or FCR

Really interested in finding out how to fit CRF side panels on the bike.....

Hey guys, I´m pretty bummed right now.

I took the bike out to start her and it seems that the rebuild just took a turn and my fear just came through.

I started her, pretty easy I might add, and I have a nasty clattering, which I suspect is the tensioner and or the chain.
Don´t think that the auto decompression would make this sound, I tested it like the manual says and it seems ok.

She wasn´t making this noise when I brought her home and that´s whats bumming me out.

Checked the condition of the shaft and it seemed ok
Checked timing several times and I´m half a tooth off
The guides showed no remarkable wear
Valve lash is perfect and done like Steve says to do it
The tensioner does seem to back out way from the guides a tiny bit when some force is applied

It sounds like a coke can full of pebbles

If she wasn´t making the sound when I bought her, why now?

There´s no wrong way to install the tensioner right?

Did you adjust the valves on the compression stroke? Is the noise at the right exhaust rocker? Recheck the valve adjustment. If you set the valves on the exhaust stroke the right exhaust rocker will have a mile of clearance and make a lot of noise.

If this is not the issue did you put the keeper bolt in the tensioner shaft? Can you rotate the tensioner shaft?

boas
Se tens meio dente de diferença a corrente já esticou demais
Será que montaste a corrente ao contrário ?
Mas pode ter o tensor partido
Não deve ser muito caro ?

hi
If you have half a tooth then the cam chain has streached
Can you have put the chain on fliped ?
the chain tensor could have a broke spring
Can't be to expensive

Hey Steve,
I did adjust them at the compression stroke. Checked and rechecked. I turned the crank counterclockwise
until the decompression click was heard and then backed the crank a bit to line the T to the notch.
The bolt is in place and tightened.

I´ll recheck them but the noise seems to be more on the side of the cylinder than on top. Like scrapping and clattering

Boas amigo

It´s impossible to fit the chain flipped but the tensioner might have broken, I just don´t see how. It was not noisy when used the last time.

It sort of is a bit on the expensive side, even on ebay. Chains of uknown quality goes for 50e and a new tensioner from Honda is around 70e. Without the shaft or spring...

I´m just gutted but will check the valve clearances again like Steve said before removing the cover

Well, the valve lash checks out. 004 and 005.

Maybe teh guides are way of spec and I didn´t realize? It could be, but there´s no reference in the manual as
to how to measure them and I didn´t see anything unusual.

I´ll remove the cover and the right side and check out if something is out of order. No way around it.
Damn, so close.

Anybody have some parts lying around that want to get rid of them?

If you think the noise is at the cylinder you may have had the wrist pin keeper pop out and if that's the case your piston and cylinder are screwed. If the valves are in spec I wouldn't start the engine again as you may cause further damage.

Do you think that´s a possibility!?
I did make sure the keepers were well seated and with the opening far from the piston opening.

Man, i´m pissed right now

Did you check if the oil is getting to the head? Maybe it's dry! If not, I'll bet on a chain! When
I boiught mine, i replaced chain and tensioner with spring and shaft just to be calm...

Hey Nikolic, I primed the pump before and didn´t even had a chance to see if I was getting oill through, I heard the scraping and I turned her off.

I do know the cause now. It was the spring of the tensioner that broke where it fixes itself on the tensioner...
Never heard that one before,

Luckly, all the pieces stayed in its place, the spring and the tip
