I got Matt the job in Antarctica. We worked together at Palmer Station, then Pole later. Talk about animal behavior...

liberating yourself from a shitty job is AWESOME.

i did it in the beginning of 2011. gave up everything i owned for the most part, and worked on getting life back to simple. the right job found me, and i couldnt be happier.

The day where I am able to start a thread like this about my current job, I think I'm going to weep uncontrollable tears of joy for hours.

Jeez, I thought something terrible happened like your airhead quit. In San Francisco the joke was:

What does BMW stand for?

Bart (train)
Muni (bus)
Walk (walk)

But you just quit your job. Feh.That happens all the time. It's the battery.

Cool2 Antarctica question...

Would Palmer Station, be where the power plant is located? My wife's mom, has a cousin who worked and still works there....I do not recall his name.....He is stocky, about mid 60's and somewhat cranky.....dark hair.....NOT married.
He was on break, last year and we met him here in The Witch City.....(Salem)......I know that he has been there for years.
I will try to get his name......Nice guy....VERY opinionated and somewhat cranky.
My wife is from, Aiken.......She wants to return to the Carolinas.....I will be trying to get a transfer sometime in the next year or so.
My /5 would LOVE to hit the Gathering of the Clans.....ME TOO.
Good luck with Das Beast.

RIDE FAST AND SAFE!

There are powerplants at all stations in Antarctica. Cat Diesels. Part of my job at South Pole & Palmer, along with everyone at the station, was to make sure those powerplants were happily humming. They stop, it gets cold. Quick. Especially at Pole.

Woke to gentle rain this morning. Mowing the grass can wait. Don't have to water as many plants either. SWMBO is at the Triumph Rally in NE GA. I am sure she had a wet night in the tent.

That's her tribe. Mine? Air cooled twins. It's in my DNA after 300,000 and I have nothing to prove anymore, though I do love my 1000 mile sorties every couple months...

Left SanJoseBMW almost 2 years ago. Under GOOD TERMS. (Not like I usually leave a job)
The last 2 years I've been scratching out a living without the fallback of a "job" and it's been...................
AWESOME! Making only a fifth of what I did as a full time BMW parts manager/supervisor.
Living down here in the Mojave and not drinking or smoking any longer, financially, it's quite do-able.
No real STRESS anymore. That's priceless.
Congrats and enjoy! Call me when you're on your way on the cross country road trip you know you wanna do.

Got the confirmation call yesterday; IT position at big hospital. 4 times the salary, 1/3 the hours of auto schlepping.

18 June "orientation". Wiz test on 13 June.

Gathering of the Clans 20th this weekend.

4 days into this, I am starting to feel somewhat human again.

Thanks mate. I am happily riding more. I like it. Hospital wants to know what three vehicles I will be driving. Audi TT, R100RS, Das Beast. '66 BMW when we both feel like it.

Maybe I'll make enough to buy a new Aerostich. My current roadcrafter is over 22 years old.

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read. If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there.... ED.

Thanks all...

Off to a 12 Bones for some really great BBQ, then Rick Jones will be riding up from 'Bama... looking forward to seeing my old friend.

Tomorrow morning, off to the Gathering of the Clans.

F*ck all. I cranked up Das Beast today, and the @#@!#! lift I had on the bench came off. The toe on my right foot took the brunt of it. 6 hours in the ER in Asheville. 10 stitches to close it. One nurse, and only one, understood that I would be riding this weekend.

If you see me there, be very, very care of my feet.
