A friend has a starter motor mounted. Driven with a fan belt to a fan belt disc (? vocabulary) that is fixed on the sidecar-wheel axle instead of an original spacer.
A generator should work, too.
Those are rather mounted to give extra way in deep snow; might even drive both directions, if you put a switch to change polarity, but in your case backwards should moreless do.
