Dave, it's great to read another report from you. I think the most interesting part of the stories are the non-riding segments, and how riding often gives us the time to ponder the past, while living in the present. I never get those feelings in a car or truck. Sometimes on a bicycle or kayak, but most often on a motorcycle trip. Keep it coming, but do it at your pace. If it becomes pressured, it won't be as real.

I wish you lived a little closer, my house needs painted. I'd love to be able to send some business your way.

Ryan

Just tuning in. Sorry to hear about your pup. Mine (10 pound Mini Daschund) is KO'd in his bed, on top of our bed, under a fleece blanket. Spoiled does not even come close. I dread the day but love every moment with him.

I think I know where you're coming from about the contentment. Growing up I was lead to believe that you earned your contentment. That it was a prize that you received if you worked hard enough. It may be that way for some, but not for me. It took a very profound and sad event to show me that contentment is more about being happy with yourself at any given moment. I read this somewhere and it's now my motto:

"The fastest way to inner peace is to not give a shit."

If you get it then it makes perfect sense. If you don't, it doesn't mean to not care about anything. It means to be caught in the rain on your bike and not care. It means you just lost your luggage at the airport and you say "meh". Roll with it.

I truly believe, especially after meeting you in the chow line at the RDV, that you're there. Your contentment is found in not being content.

Loving the ride report. Carry on good sir.

Enjoying the ride report so far. I grew up in Mobile and been to Dauphin Island a zillion times. That bridge in your last set of photos is referred to as the Dolly Parton bridge by local folks.

Need to try some vienna sausages and saltine crackers with that hoop cheese. Now that is a southern delicacy

Dear Dave and Julie,
I am sorry for your loss. Thank goodness you have a friend , in the form of your bike that can make it a little easier to bear. Dave I am so glad to see a new RR by you, you certainly have helped me make connections on my rides, i do get the most out of meeting folks on the road and I learned a bit of that from you.
Thanks Jabreu in CA

Hello Dave and Julie

Just saw your thread..... As always captivated, and appreciate the thoughts and words that you "pen".

Loved the comment from Ralph. We can learn so much from people around us, if we listen. How cool to encourage you to follow a dream and not put it off!

Interesting - I am reading a little book by Dr Spencer Johnson which is titled "Who Moved My Cheese" - an Amazing Way to Deal with Change in your Work and in Your Life. Dave your ride reports allways reflect change, perhaps that is why they are so interesting and worthy of publishing to a wider audience. Enjoying the ride from this side of the pond.

The Handwriting on the Wall: Change happens--they keep moving the cheese.

This is a great book about adapting to change. Now, I'm going to have to read it again. Thanks, Jim.
