While at the zoo, we noticed a stage had been erected and they were doing sound checks. Who was the headliner you might ask?
The B-52's. Never cared much for them, but we did see their bus arriving. Liked the bus!

The zoo was very good, but a lot of walking. We discovered a children's petting zoo area with pygmy goats, and Scooter chick's love of small animals boiled over. Took a couple pictures of her wearing by hat backwards so the goats would not jump up, grab the bill and take off running and chewing simultaneously. The photos of her doting on Goatlings will be added to her adventurobilia. There was a family who commissioned an elephant to do an original art piece on canvas.

After taking in most of the attractions, we left and stopped downtown to sightsee a little on the way back to the hotel. We checked out a few stores and got a coffee and cake to have beside a cool fountain. You can really discern the city's art & crafts background, even the grates for utilities are decorated in a cool fashion.

After enjoying the day out, we headed back by rail to our hotel. We decided that we enjoyed last nights habanero mango wings and Spinach Feta Cheesy stuffed bread so much we ordered it again!

This bike has proven to be "problem free" after having come so far over so many different road conditions. I'm glad we brought this one instead of the Saga.
I don't think that bike would have made it without eventually having to be towed again.

Hey Adrian! Hope we can meet sometimes and go for a ride. We plan to pull out of here Sunday if the weather clears up. It seems that I (being a new rider) can only do about 2-3 hours tops without having to pack it in for the day! One of these days I'll be able to go longer.

But not that "iron butt" thing! I'm still adjusting to "monkey butt"!

Day 7

We're still trying to perfect a decent cup of coffee out of the hotel room coffee maker. Hey we are in the Pacific Northwest aren't we? We have gone as far as putting 3 packets of coffee in the machine and it still comes out looking and tasting varmous. The coffee service they use is called Royal Cup. Being from British Columbia I have at least a passing acquaintance with the whole concept of Royalty, and I can assure you that if this "coffee" were ever presented to Her Britannic Majesty, by the grace of God, Elizabeth the Second, Queen of England, ruler of Great Britain and keeper of the faith, she would inquire of the royal steward, "from which stall in the Royal Stables dis you extract this horse urine?" Might I reminder you that We still have, by Royal decree the right to require your head on a pike prior to sundown!!!

After another sadly miscarried attempt, we went to breakfast, ahead of the ravening pack of motel-goers. I opted for tea with breakfast. Another day, another breakfast creation off ill repute. This time it was a waffle, gravy, scrambled eggs with pepper and a couple sausage patties......I know many of you are saying "EWWWWWW", but it was quite good really.

We returned to the room, the scooters slumbering peacefully under their cover in the rain, and the Scooter Chick was again thankful for the time tested adage " 3.4 oz. of carefully folded preparation, beats a full pound of I bloody well wish I had brought that umbrella."

We set out in a steady drizzle, not the warmest of mornings and the Scooter Chick was bundled in a lined jacket and my hat, feeling chilled.

Once again we were thankful for the transit system. Our objective du jour was to check out the Portland Saturday Market.. It promised a variety of food, arts, crafts and whatnot galore.

There was a transit stop right at the market and after looking at a few vendors we stopped to get a coffee and saw the long lineup out the door for a local landmark Voodoo Donuts. Though we saw folk enjoying said donuts with obvious lip smacking enjoyment, we chose not to stand in line.

While we drank our coffee, Scooter Chick casually remarked isn't that......? sure enough it was.

We spent an enjoyable 15 minutes or so chatting with Mike Wolfe from American Pickers and his brother Robbie. They and their spouses were on a trip and we discussed the show, his future projects and scooters. he has a PX200E Vespa and would like to make a cross-country trip with it. We of course pointed him towards ADV Rider as an invaluable resource.

We spent a couple hours browsing the Market and got some food for a picnic lunch on the "boardwalk" overlooking the Willamette River.

Soon enough we were all walked out and headed back to the transit stop. We did get a few good architectural shots, and street scenes while waiting for our train.

Now we are packing in preparation for our trip north tomorrow. The weather has smartened up quite a bit, and POP is 30% for tomorrow, so it should be a nice ride.

We are having a bite to eat. Guess what's for dinner? That's right boys and girls....Habanero Chicken Wings and Feta Spinach Cheesy Bread.....leftover from yesterday, and reheated in the hotel room's microwave oven.............Mmmmmmmmmm yummy!

Day8

We awoke at about 6:30 to the sound of rain. Drat and double drat! well if we can't hit the road early, we might as well eat breakfast. Having eaten and the rain down to a mere drizzle, we loaded the bikes and determined to head out.

We decideded to see different things, and stop different places on the way back.
We crossed the St. John's Bridge

and stopped for coffee. ScooterChick said she would like something different so ordered a triple Americano. Here we see the result.

We also got some cool pics heading west on Hwy. 30.

For some reason, the view seemed different this time around. Perhaps seeing things from the opposite side of the journey added to the beauty of it all.
