We crossed back into Washington over the Lewis and Clark bridge. spanning the mighty Columbia River.

We headed north from Longview and made an interesting tour on a road that climbed over a ridge (read wrong turn), with spectacular views. Turns out we had turned left exactly one block too early and instead of going up Hwy. #411, we ended up going up Columbia Heights road, Down Lone Oak rd, and then back by Coal Creek Road. I thought the road was totally cool, linked esses and plenty of elevation changes. Scooter Chick felt that she had a tenuous grip on her life and that it might be riven from her at any moment. in spite of her mind-numbing terror she rode it like a GP'er would, only at slower speeds.

We stopped at Four Corners General Store in Castle Rock. While waiting to ask the clerk directions, I looked around their "sporting goods" section. The sporting goods in question were mainly confined to the ballistic variety, and included a Military Grade .50cal. rifle with a scope that could guarantee a kill shot at 1000+ yd. Apparently some folks in Washington take their varmint huntin' kinda serious like. I did finally get to talk to the clerk, and ask how far it was to Castle Rock (considering a motel in the area.) She remarked 'this is it. Alterrnately I asked her how far to Chehalis or Centralia. She announced that she couldn't even begin to guess! Okay then....we push on

We stopped in Winlock, and had a substantial lunch at a cafe and got a few more pictures.

However, upon checking into the room, Scooterchick immediately noticed the "substandard" house keeping. She called down to the desk and requested that the housekeeper return and properly "clean" the room. We waited and Scooterchick watched attentatively as the housekeeper re-vaccuumed the floor, re-clean the bathroom including the toilet, and wash the sink area. Then she had her strip the bedding off and replace with new bedding...

Scooterchick does not play around!

Afterwhich, we began to unpack some things and settle in. We were both simply too tired to move to another hotel or room...

Now to figure out what to do about dinner.....??

Having had a chance to relax, we ventured out on the Maj with every intention of going to a Quizno's a few blocks away on the other side of the Freeway. As we rode out of thee motel, we found there was a BBQ joint next door. Nuff said. We got some decent pulled pork on a toasted bun with rings and mac salad. Very good all in all.

A full belly was had by all.

The decor was very NW, and loggerlike

Stay tuned for the next installment, same scoot-thread, same scoot-channel.

Day 9 you say?

Slept last night with the window open, and it was very pleasant to wake up to the birds chirping this a.m. We strolled into the breakfast room and had some chow,

then prepared to hit the road.

We came up 507 and actually stopped in tiny Tenino to take a few photos

and then at various other places along the way to let traffic pass.

We stopped in Puyallup to take some more pictures and have some lunch.

While in Puyallup we met a lady named Trish, whose hubby rides a Kymco Grand Vista,

and she was a veritable fount of information on the area. The City of Puyallup, realizing that people were being lured to large malls on the outskirts decided to "artsy" up the downtown.

There are statues and artwork everywhere, and the place is thriving since many people come to browse the antique stores and eat at the restaurants. Clever thinking by the Puyallapons, (Puyallupites?, Puyallupish?) to retain flavour rather than blight in the downtown area.

As we left Puyallup we took note of a few local landmarks.

We do not know if the donuts are in fact happy, and we felt unwilling to sample their wares to see if they made us happy.
The Golden Rooster looks like it used to be what was called an Auto Court, back in the day. Today we know them as motels. The first unit would be a live in caretaker and the rest were either rooms with bath, or housekeeping rooms.

Leaving Puyallup behind we rode up the hill to Federal Way, about 1/2 hr. and checked into a Quality Inn. The room they gave us had a bed with a huge sag in the middle, and after conferring with the management, they gave us a better room, upgrading us to a King suite.

While composing the RR hunger struck. Seeing a Taco Bell, we decided to "make a run for the border".

ScooterChick declared upon finishing her dinner that with all the fast food we have been eating on this trip, we will have to go on a steady broccoli and salad diet when we get home. She says that every time she gets on her scooter it is as though 2 women mount up, and she badly wants to beat the living tar out of the other one!

Well, we'll see you tomorrow

You really can't tell from this picture, but the parking lot was slightly sloped, so Scootard rolled "Ms Vickey" to level ground for me...

So, off he went to Wal-mart to get some cold medicine.....

Keep it coming! I really enjoyed seeing the pics in Puyallup, as we lived very close (within walking distance) of the places you showed. I miss our old (built in 1915) house in Puyallup and the neighborhood and friends I used to work with (at Destination Harley-Davidson in Tacoma), and my great commute riding on a nice windy back road past farms and rivers.

But don't feel too bad for me. We moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. I now ride a scooter as does my wife. See what they are in my signature.

Thanks for the writeup both of you.

Jon
