So Cal Motorcycle Vacation Mar 19-23

I've been to LA a few times for work over the last few years and always wanted to take a trip out there recreationally. This winter in Wisconsin has been exceptionally shitty and cold, so now's the time. I'll be flying in on the 19th of March, taking a shuttle down to Motoquest for my Wee, then I'll just tool around for a few days. I'm thinking about going up the 1 for a day, then 2 through the Angeles Forest, then head down to San Diego for another day (Polomar), then maybe some desert riding as well. Any suggestions?

Ultimately I'm doing some scouting. I'm working on selling my house and I'd like to relocate to So Cal. No official job interviews or anything, just checking out neighborhoods and whatnot.

Hey Matt

You've got some good plan going on there, the 2 could be dicey in March, snow may close a large portion of it. If your north bound on the 1 be sure to catch the Santa Monica Mountains, the popular Rock Store is up there. But more importantly, the riding is exceptional, but watch you speed or don't, we could use the money.

Ignore the highlighting,

Since you're picking up at Motoquest Long Beach, heading east and south takes you to all kinds of good stuff:

Joshua Tree NP.
Hwy 74, Palms to Pines Hwy, cutting thru Idyllwild via 243.
Borrego Springs & the Anza Borrego State Park. The climb in/out of BS on the Montezuma Grade(S22) is awesome.
Now your near Lake Henshaw, Mt Palomar, Mesa Grande Rd, Julian. I like the road between San Ysabel(stop at the Mission)and Ramona. Just west of Ramona is Highland Valley Rd(slow but scenic),

The east end of Hwy 74, Palm Desert down there.

This should get the conservation started....

Sam

Heck yeah, Sam. These are some great suggestions.

I'll add that there are two MC enthusiast bars to check out (The Cooler in Winola outside of Julian and the Hideout near Santa Ysabel near Palomar Mountain/Mesa Grande Rd, etc.).

Well done.

In case you end up towards Ventura county, Rt 1 is closed north of Malibu. It is supposed to be open, but is not open yet.

As of Friday Rt 1 is now open.

Wow, great suggestions, thanks everyone. I have Poway on the list since there's a potential employment location there so I'll definitely hit up that Highland Valley road while there. And thanks for the tip on the 1. I was planning on taking that all the way up to Santa Barbara.

If 2 is closed you could try the Mount Baldy Rd/ Glendora Ridge and Glendora Mountain Road with Hwy 39 thrown in. Makes a nice circuit.

Hope you have a great trip, Matt. Don't rule out the rest of CA in your hunt for warmer lands!

I won't, but for this trip I'd like to focus on the Socal area. I'm also looking at Sacramento, Phoenix, and Austin as potential spots as well.
