Think they could compete? Or would it end up with an oversaturation of a niche market? Sometimes I think the Japanese companies get to frozen by worrying what the other Japanese companies are/will do. If Honda spent the money to bring a nice 450cc dual sport to market, and the others all did the same, would any of them see enough sales to make it worthwhile?

Many of the European companies seem to be not as bothered by what their competitors might do. They decide they want to build something, and set out to do so. Their approach to making sure they get the sales is to make sure they have the best product. In the long run, it can be a little more Darwinian process, and there's no guarantee that all the companies will survive, but for the consumer, it sure makes for nice products.

I think that the Europeans also have an edge in that they are more aware of land use issues, restricted riding areas, and the desires of many to use a bike on the road, either for trail linking, or for more mundane purposes that keep the bike from being a one trick pony. I think that the Japanese are more focused on America being a land of wide open riding areas (which we are compared to many parts of the world), where everyone has a truck and will just take their toy (dirt bike) out on the weekends to play with (in our wide open areas or tracks), and then go back to our cars for all other purposes. And of course, the Asian companies are busy making bikes for Asia...

Oh, and the "Big Three"? Which one doesn't get to be counted?

Ok four, fixed.

Big Creek Road to Dinkey Creek

Has anyone ridden the dirt road, Big Creek Rd, from Pine Flat to Dinkey Creek in the past several days? I road it a few weeks ago before the most recent storm and rode through snow the last 6 miles.

I was wondering how fast the snow is melting.

They didn't try to jump you did they?

From one of our last few ride reports:

In one stunning moment in Time, that cow and I were on the same wavelength of the Collective Consciousness and I instinctively knew exactly what it had in mind.

I didn't have time to get out the camera. I didn't know if I was terrified to watch what was about to happen or if I was going to fall over laughing...

Then the cow jumped.

Not over the fence.

Not over the moon.

But down that embankment. 8 feet to the road below, 2500 pounds of flailing, terrified beef... all aimed at Hesaid as he sat there idling on the bike, calmly waiting for the herd to clear...
I don't want to give to much away, but the cow missed.
