Over the hill and far away...Ok, not that far.

Left early, blah blah blah blah blah.
Was a bit chilly but I can't complain. Better than the heat thats for sure.

Made it to the Waverly, TN exit off I 40. "The Log Cabin"
Awesome biscuits here! I mean really awesome. I'm in prime biscuit country, and they were "Slap 'Yo Mama" good.
During breakfast, I learn that fellow inmate Motocopter is headed south as well. The plan is to meet at David Crockett state park around noonish.

Made it to Hohenwald, TN to set up camp. (and to warm up)

Set the tent up, opened the valve on my Thermarest, threw my sleeping bag out, and hit the road south to Lawrenceburg, TN. (more on that later)

Yes, it was it was all right where I left it when I returned later that day.

To be continued:

David Crockett State Park

Near Lawrenceburg, TN: David Crockett State park
Compared to some of the parks in the west, this one was very nice!

Saw a Mermaid sunning herself near the dam.

She was not allowed to fish, or swim...so.

There were other water features throughout the park.

Looks cold.

Covered bridge in the park.

Same bit of water...

...but the view is from this bridge outside the park

...and there was this park as well.

That park looks over into David Crockett park. I have no idea why.

So about this time Motocopter shows up. We talk a bit, compare horsepower numbers and when I realized what he had under the tank, I figured we better stay off the four lane or I'd never see him again.
We headed to "Downtown Lawrenceburg" to take on some fuel and head south.
Found some good rural roads and headed back to Hohenwald. Cops were fairly stiff on the trace, so we had to keep the "horses" under control. It's really tough to ride 50 MPH.

Ok, if you've stuck around this far, it's about to get really good.

By show of hands, how many of you want to see the YugoCycle?

Yugo? No, you go!

No takers eh? Well, it's killing me not to post 'em.

Tennessee plates!

So, Motocopter and I arrive back at the campground. He had a bit of a ride ahead of him, so the idea was to say goodbye and let him get on the road to beat the rain that was moving in...but it was not to be.
We see this red...thing going through the campground. As it passed, the "Yugo" badge caused me to laugh out loud. "No way" I thought.

Well, the unofficial mayor of Hohenwald saw our bikes and decided to stop by for a brief chat.

Was it really a Yugo? It had a super quiet exhaust so, I'll bite and say yeah!

It had all the options too. Stereo, brakes, rollbar, GPS, a Mack hood ornament, the works.

It even had a Library...

The young gentleman liked to chat, but he was burning Motocopters ridetime daylight, and my ability to go get some Vittles and ice.

Moto made a gracious getaway, but I was not so lucky...I ran into him twice more in town too.

More to come:

I can't stand the rain (Ann Peebles, Good song! Youtube it)

So I make it back from town just in time to start dinner...then the rain came. As I returned I noticed a few tents had bugged out during my brief trip to town. Is it going to be that bad? NWS said no, so I trusted 'em.
There was some some major weather (T-storms, Hail) nearby, but it missed us.
However, since it did rain, I went to plan B and made an emergency dinner.
Had to move supper and cocktail hour indoors.

The tent held!
Gotta say, the pitter patter of raindrops put me right to sleep.Temps dropped that night. High fortys I guess. My gear did it's job, and I didn't die so...

Sunday morning, time to go home. Tennessee breakfast: Coffee and grits, oh yeah.

Brushed my teeth and...hit the road.

The trees look like they were painted by that hippie dude on PBS with the bitchen 'fro. Bob Ross

Headed back through Clifton, TN

Gotta love it.

Hi. LIKE your report thread so far!

I have that same Strom - White ones are the fastest ones you know!

I think they probably are siblings - same line, same day sort of thing.
I guess I'll have to just ride down sometime in the spring and meet up for a short reunion :)

I like to go trout fishing and you have plenty of that in TN.
The Strom likes to meet up with family members and we both like going on trips so we both would be happy. :)

Thanks!
Hmm, I like riding southern Indiana.
Just so you know, the white ones fall over more often than any other color as well. Watch out for that.

See you in the spring for the family reunion.

I like the idea of a host at various locations. I'm in Paris, and LBL is a great area. I am sure there are a few on here that know it well. However, a nice ride to Patti's in Grand Rivers for a 2" pork chop should more than make up for my inabilities at route selection and my slow "noob" riding.

Good to see ya Ray!
Yes, Liberia is really on to something. I think the park hosting is going to come into it's own when spring rolls around. Thing I like is that it could be a ride, could be a camp out, could be both. It's going to be fun to see what folks come up with.

Never had the chop at Patties, I always get the Hot Brown 'cause thats the only place in West TN that has one. (That I know of)

HEy, "hot brown" sounded interesting, and was wondering about Patti's. Gee whiz, I've always driven right by the place numerous times! Now, I'm looking at a menu and will have to go try the hot brown.

Hot Brown?

Hadn't heard of a Hot Brown. What can I say I've been sheltered on some things. But I must say that when I am looking for 2" thick pork chops I don't spend much time looking at the sandwich part of the menu. I did follow the link and it looks pretty damn good. Might have to sit outside the restaurant for a bit afterwards. Looks like that thing will bring on a nice post dinner nap.

Just in case you are ever up to Patti's and it's real busy, Mr Bill's is on the other side and uses the same kitchen and menu. Bigger tables it says too, better for groups. Groups of hungry ADV riders

I have to stop, I'm gettin' hungry.

this is a nice RR!

Your recent trip put you pretty much in my back yard. I wish I had known you were coming. My bad.

The Log Cabin is a great place to eat any time of day. I have been there many times.

I have never camped at Hohenwald, but I have camped at Davy Crockett a couple of times.

Well, now you have yet another destination to add to ye olde bucket list.
(I may live there every weekend this spring)

Middle Tennessee has some really nice State parks. I've not been to this one even though it's only an hour or so from my home. I guess that's one of the reasons I wanted to see ride reports from all the parks, it encourages me to get out and ride there myself.

Great report. Thank you.

Les détenus salutations. Qui veulent à se rendre à Paris?

Who wants to ride to Paris, TN in the morning?

Itinéraire:

I'll hopfully leave out of Memphis at 8 or 9, get to Trollingers in Paris around 11 or 12 for a quick break. (Fried Pie, No Twinkies )
Then hit 232, ride the ferry, (bring a dollar) buzz by Nathan Bedford Forrest State park for a quick peek, then head back to the city.

(Box File for GPS route)

Bundle up...ou vous geler les fesses off!

I went to Edgar Evins SP today and the weather was nice. Of course I didn't leave until 1pm which helped.

Looking forward to your visit to NBFSP.
