There are lots of motorcycles in Colombia and not that many in Ecuador.
There are big taxes on Motorcycles here. And why have a motorcycle when you can have a car......gas is only $1.50 a gallon......and diesel is only a buck.
Most of the motorcycles in Colombia are less than 150 cc's. Big ones are 250's. But with 1200 cc's, I have enough power to blow past almost anything on the road..............as shown here in this video.

After getting robbed on the beach, I went to a little surf town called Las Tunas about 10 miles south of Pto Lopez and just hung low. I checked it to a hostal on the beach. Here is a picture from my room. It was $15 a night the first night and then went to $25 the next two night because of Easter weekend

I hung out in Las Tunas and surfed, ate ceviche and ice cream and had a few beers. It was nice. Not a lot of tourist there and the surf was pretty good. The waves broke fast and hard. I had some pretty good rides - just like in the old days. Steep drop ins, cranking the bottom turn, off the lip, cutting back and even a floater re-entry

So it was Easter eve
I was walking back to my room.
It was dark
I was walking thru the main street in town
The street and the main drag are about 200 years long at the most.
A local guy called me over. He was calling me over to come dance with the girls that he had with him. It turns out it was his 30th or 35th (never fifigured it out) birthday and he was trying to get the party started. He handed me a shot of beer and next thing I knew it I was dancing with a really cute local girl.......the one on the left. The girl on the right was from NY and she was in the peace corp doing some work in the village.
In the end, neither showed any interest in me

I danced with a lot of the girls there, but there was only one that caught my eye and she wouldn't even look me in the eye. And all the other girls couldn't. None of them were over 5 feet tall. One gal I lifted up and put her on top of a chair and danced with her as she stood on top of the chair because she was just staring at my crotch.
Even the birthday boy was short. Maybe around 5 feet tall.
I tower over everyone here.
I wanted to get the party going so I went next door to the tienda and bought some rum and coke. Then they brought out the cake and we all sang feliz cumpleanos

I guess this is the tradition in Ecuador
When it is your birthday, after you blow out the candles, you get your face pushed in to the beautiful cake
So funny............I like it

On Easter, I drove to Montanita Beach
What a zoo
It was the place to be for the 3 million people that live in Ecuador's largest city, Guayaquil, about an hour or so away. I figured there would be a place to stay as everyone would be heading home that Sunday night. And the place did clear out that night. But still there were quite a few people here

I saw this sign here in Montalita
I wish they had a similar sign in Pto Lopez
I guess the message is that if you camp on the beach, you will get robbed
But the police were out in force here in quads, side by sides and even a helicopter that would fly about 30 feet above the city
But in Pto Lopez, all the police were sleeping
WTF

I don't know what it is about the dogs here but they all like to hang out with me.
I didn't have any food
But this guy was walking around and decided to hang out with me.
There were a million people on the beach and he or she lays down next to me.
Probably because I was the only one on the beach alone

Dogs are the best judge of character. Obviously you are someone worth hanging out with

Loving your ride report from here in Australia. Take care.

The dog from Pto Lopez called him and asked him to take care of you...

this is getting a little scary

I was getting my tires replaced and a random guy walks in to the dealership in Guayaquil to get his oil changed. He tells me that just 10 minutes earlier, I guy put a gun in his face on the street and demended his helmet and riding jacket. And that was just 3 days after I got robbed. Shit like that is really happening here. And it is happening all the time.
I didn't ask the guy what kind of stuff he had but I guarantee you it wasn't a Shoei helmet and a Rev'it jacket.
I got to think the bad guys see me roll in to town with my fancy BMW motorcycle and they think.......JACKPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since then, I have been watching my back more.
I was going to get the watch band on my Tag Heuer watch fixed but I think I am not going to want to wear it until I get to Europe.
All the places I stay have bars on the windows and some type of security to keep the bad guys out. I went to a liquor store yesterday and they had an armed guard out front.
Bad stuff happens down here, It will happen to you if you are asking for it.
