The internet here in Northern Peru has been slow to non existent
So sorry, no new pictures for now.
But I will be in Lima in a few days.
I hope to get on line there.
But I have some good stories.
I have been doing lots of surfing. Surfing world class breaks like Lobitos.
I camped two nights ago in a rice field and a fruit orchard for breakfast and an old adobe house to sleep in complete with a bunch of new born puppies.
More soon

Heading to Peru

I took thru cool canyon road that heads down from Cuenca to the coast.
I was one of the only vehicles on the this road.
Great ride
Pavement got worse as I got closer to the coast

Crossing the border in to Peru
I wish all the border crossing were this easy
I didn't have to make any copies
I didn't have to pay any money
And I didn't have to figure out what to do
I walked in to the new looking building
I walked up to the first guy and got my passport stamped out of Ecuador
The next guy stamped me in to Peru
And the next guy got my temp import papers finished for my bike
There was no line
No hassle
And I was on my way in minutes

My first stop was to Hervideros Hot Springs
I had to ride some back roads to get there
And it was a big mud pool
There were some guys hanging out there
I asked if it was safe to camp there
They said it was "trandquillo"
And that was the word the guy used about the beach I camped on when I got robbed
It must be code for....................if you camp here, you will get ripped off
So I went looking for another spot to pitch my tent

Here is the spot that I slept the first night in Peru
It was just north of Pt Sal.
There are lots of little beach spots you can camp or get a cabina for the night.
It was perfect
I slept well
My first night in my tent since I got robbed
Or attempted robbery I should say

In Peru, you see a lot of these ugly hairless dogs running around
It is a breed here
I kind of like them

I found a place to camp in Mancora
Mancora is a cool little surf town in Northern Peru.
It has a nice point break. I caught some pretty tasty waves here
Check out this nice left coming in

On a side note,
I was riding thru the town on some backroads and a little boy about 5 years old had a rock in his hand and he threw it at me as I rode past. The rock hit me
it didn't hurt but it was the whole point
I hit the brakes and stopped
I ran over to the boy and grabbed him by his arm and shook him. I yelled at him right in his face in spanish not to throw rocks.
He started to cry and ran to his mom who was watching the whole thing
Then I yelled at the mom
And the mom gave me a look like she wanted to kill me
So I took off

Ha

My next stop was the world famous surf spot called Lobitos.
It is about 10 miles of the PanAmerican highway. You have to go thru lots of oil wells to get to the beach. I didn't know Peru had so much oil.

Here's the hotel place I stayed at.
It was full of surfers and hippies.
Everyone was smoking pot.
They had a party that lasted until 5 am.
They were singing and playing music.
I pretty much slept thru it all

Do they charge to stay on the beach? Or to stay under a cabana?
