Video

This video shows the fuse is lit and the dynamite is about ready to explode.
But at the last moment, I threw my body on the TNT and saved the vineyard.
I did have a lot of wine that night so it might have actually happened a bit different

I always make room for wine in my luggage. At this point, I am carrying 5 bottles. I just can't say no to these smoking deals here in Argentina. $20 for a winery's best reserve wine?????
I need to figure out a way to carry more

yet another winery.....bored yet?
At this one, the guy opened the Gran Reserva for me, which they normally don't do. He poured me a sample and then let me take the whole bottle with me. NICE!

Bored yet

I am sure you are bored from all my wine stories and pictures.
Maybe you will find these pictures more interesting. If it stops snowing here, I will be seeing her tomorrow in Santiago. More about the snow in a minute.......I still have some catching up to do

Leaving the wine country around Salta behind and carrying a full load of wine, I head south toward Mendoza. Route 40 is empty......no cars.....no trucks
Just me, my bike and the open road.........awesome!!!

Ruta 40

Ruta 40 is never boring
Yes, there are long straight stretches but just before it gets boring and it changes. In this case, the road turns to dirt and heads up and over a cool pass.

Near Villa Union, I see 2 motorcycles coming the other way.
Most of the time it is some 200cc local guy heading somewhere.
In this case, it is 2 blokes from England.
I don't see other adventure riders very often out on the open road.
Its kind of like when 2 dogs see each other so we stop to sniff each other's butts
Usually when I tell someone that I have been traveling for 10 months, it gets a reaction. But these guys have been traveling for YEARS!
Africa!
Europe
Everywhere.
The big guy is Young James.
I forget the other guy's name because he hasn't e mailed me yet.....
But these are guys that I want to stay in touch with.
I am sure they are a wealth of knowledge
In fact, they told me something that I was wondering about.
I was planning to ride up and over Agua Negra pass in to Chile. But the weather was looking bad ahead so I was not sure I could make it. It is a 14,000+ pass and they confirmed it was closed.
But they had just crossed it. And it was now covered in a foot of snow.
So my new plan was to head to Mendoza and cross in to Chile there.
I want to go back and do Agua Negra another time. But it is too late in to the year now.

I spent the night in a little town called Belen.
When I left in the morning, I noticed that the weather had changed.
The sun was gone and the temp dropped 20 degrees. It only got up in to the low 50's
I knew that winter was coming.
And it looked like it was going to rain all day, but it held off
I could see it was raining in other places around me in the mountains, but I stayed dry all day.
But it was cold

Route 40 to Mendoza has some more cool passes.
This one was like the road of death.
In one place, it was maybe 200 straight down to the river below.
I mean straight down.
And the guardrail was gone.
It was scary just standing there to take the picture

Since that Australian guy up loaded some maps in to my GPS, finding my way around has been much easier
I was looking for a place to camp and it shows camp spots on my GPS. So I picked one
When I got there, there was nothing there but vineyards.
So I found a cool spot in the vineyard and put my tent up and cooked up some dinner and drank some of my wine.
