Wicked Fantastic

Nice pictures Ed
Toulon France is not a good place to be. If you want to hit some nice beach you should take a stroll down to roses a little town north of Barcelona or South of France. You can find great wine with amazing Baheja (spelling) popular Spanish sea food dish. You can do a hike to some of the castle or take a walk along the beach no one would bother you. Miss the good old time
Have fun in Europe and ride safe Mon Ami

Since the race course is on public roads, you can pretend like you are Fangio 24/7 here

We all have those special moments on our travels that mean more to us then to others.
For me, visiting the Monte Carlo Casino had special meaning.

If you know me, you know I love cars more than wine and maybe even motorcycles.
And there are two stories that I will never forget about this place.
Both took place back in the mid 60's

First one involves my favorite car in the world.........a Lamborghini Miura
Back in 1966, Lamborghini wanted to show up Enzo Ferrari and build something better. Mr Lamborghini built tractors and thought he could build a better sports car. His first attempt with the 350 and 400GT were a nice try but were by no means a show stopper.

So he hired Bertone to design the most beautiful car of all time......the Miura. There were two men that were responsible for the design.
Giorgetto Giugiaro started the design and Marcello Gandini finished it.
If you know your cars, you will know these names. They are 2 of the best car designers of all time.

Well, back to my story and how it relates to Monaco.
Remember, the 60's there was no internet and Mr Lamborghini wanted to show off his new design. He took the first prototype and asked his test driver at the time (Bob Wallace) to drive the car to the Monte Carlo Casino and just park it in front. Of course, within no time there was a crowd around the car. No one had ever seen such a beautiful and radical looking car. After all, it was one of first cars to have the engine in the middle of the car......like the race cars at the time.
Well, Bob came out of the casino every hour to start the engine and even a bigger crowd would appear.

Mr Lamborghini received so many orders for the car with this little stunt, he had no choice but to built the car. Unfortunately, the car was rushed in to production and it had lots of issues. But to me and many others, it is still the most awesome car of all time. And I stood in the same spot the car was parked almost 50 years ago.

The other story involves my former favorite car in the world
Mini Cooper S
In the mid 60's, the Works Minis won almost every international rally in the world including the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 65 and 67. They actually won in 66 too but the French got mad that the little car kept winning at disqulaified them because the lights were different than stock.

Well Monte Carlo was the big daddy of the rally races and these cars rolled down these same streets that Kathe and I walked on.
