In the town of Haro is where most of the wineries are. They are all within walking distance which was a good thing for me.
My first stop was Muga
They make one of my favorite wines.....Prado Enea

You know what I love about Spain......tradition!!!!
And the Spanish wines scream tradition.
Every other place in the world gets there wines to the market as soon as possible so they can get paid for the wines they made 2 or 3 years ago.
The French for example sell their wines asap. In Bordeaux, they barrel age the wines for about 14 months and then ship it out for people to drink even though they will not be ready for years.
In fact, in Bordeaux, they sell their wines as "futures". That means the wine is sold before it is even bottled!

In Spain, there are laws that dictate when the wines can be sold.
And how long they have to be aged in barrel.
And that is just the minimum amount.
And no other winery in Spain says this more than this winery.
Here. the Reserva is aged for 6 years in the barrel and another 6 in the bottle before it is sold. And the Grand Reserva is aged for 10 in barrels and 10 in bottle. So their current vintage for the Gran Reseva is 1994.
It says a lot about the winery. They are making and selling the wine when it is ready and not just trying to maximize their bottom line

I took a tour of the winery and I can say that there is not another winery like it in the world.
There is mold everywhere!
It's on the bottles
It's on the walls
It's on the barrels
But it is a good kind of mold that controls the humidity levels inside.
