It feels like winter is already here in Slovakia.
It has been raining all fricken day.
I hope it clears tomorrow and I see snow on top of these 9000 foot peaks I want to climb.
Anyone know an anti rain dance

I haven't met any
At least they didn't ask to come with me
Maybe it's that they see I don't have room.
I did give that one gal from Tallinn and her friend a ride on my bike. They sat on top of my side boxes, one on each side. The ride only lasted about a foot before they slid off. Pretty funny.

It'll get warmer before winter really strikes in. Last two autumns were quite warm and with not to much of rain.
Hopefully this one will get better. I have to ride Croatian coast road one last time this year. I think the official name for it is "D8" and it is a very scenic road, with lots of twisties and not much traffic. Goes along Adriatic sea through Croatia, few miles of Bosnia, then again Croatia, along town Dubrovnik and in Montenegro.

I like the churches in South America better.

How are you handling civilization and the cities? Ready to leave for Africa yet?

I think we're in for an early winter this year - it's cool in North Carolina already, and it's usually still 90+ this time of year.

I heard from Kathe today.
She told me that my ex GF contacted her recently and sent her some previous correspondence between me and her that doesn't paint a nice picture of me. Nothing horrible. It's just when you pick and choose and cut and paste, you can tell a story almost any way you want. Hollywood has been using that tactic for years to create drama.

Also someone hacked Kathe's computer and hijacked here Facebook page. That someone deleted all of our pictures and deleted her account. And someone also tried to hack in to my computer. They were using something called "yieldmanager' which allows someone to steal passwords off of a computer. I am not sure if they got on to my computer or not.

So right now, I am holed up in my little hotel rom trying to clean up this mess.

So the lesson here is.......before you leave on a RTW motorcycle trip, have all your loose ends tied up, otherwise you will be dealing with this shit on the road instead of riding the roads.
Sounds like the old Kathy is intent on not letting you enjoy the new Kathe. What's that old saying about "A woman scorned"? Regardless, enjoy your ride and thanks for the updates. I'm enjoying your travels!

Me too. My favorite church so far was in Quito Ecuador.
And I am looking forward to heading deeper in to Eastern Europe. Not quite Africa but it will be certainly more adventurous

It sounds to me like the ex is being vindictive probably due to the fact that things arnt going well for her in her current life and she cant bare to see you happy. Distance yourself from her as far as you can, especially when/if you return to California. Definately not good friend material let alone life mate.

Your blog is so amazing. Its inspired me to consider planning a trip to south america by way of Alaska (I lived there for 10 years). Probably on a DR 650 in say four or five years...

Rubber side down!

People in Central and South America ask the same questions:

How much does your motorcycle cost?
How fast does it go?
What size is the engine?
Etc

In Europe, people ask different questions:

How long have you been traveling?
Where am I going and where have I been.
Do I get lonely?

But one question always has me thinking

They ask "why" I am traveling.

The obvious answer is because I enjoy it. But they are looking for a deeper meaning.......some sort of catalyst that caused me to live on the road by motorcycle.

And the truth is I don't have a real good reason.

I got divorced about 5 years ago so that was not the spark.
Work was hard to come by being in Commercial Real Estate but I could have found some work to make ends meet.
And I sold my house because it no longer made me happy. It was just a huge financial burden.

So when people ask me, I tell them that it is just something that I have to do. And most people can't understand it and actually I don't really understand it either. But it is something that I have to do right now.
And that is the only way I can explain being able to endure the hardships that I go thru from time to time living on the road.
It is no fun being cold, wet, lost, lonely, hungry, sick, exhausted, and frustrated at times. But I keep going because I have to.

Often times when I am camp somewhere in the middle of nowhere, I break out my music (ipod and player). And when I listen to my music, my music speaks to me. One song by Cat Stevens called "Father and Son" has deep meaning for me. Not all the words in the song because I had an ideal upbringing. But the lyrics go something like this:

If they were right
I'd agree
But it's them they know not me
There's a way
And I know
I have to go away
I have to go.

And I understand exactly how Cat Stevens was feeling
I know why, I have the same gut feeling. I am almost ready to pull the trigger and RIDE. Last kid at home will graduate in June, then Im ready. Cant explain it but, I need to do it.

Ever read the label of an US Bud?
It says that there is no other beer they know that costs as much to produce. Well, I don't think they have looked very hard. Especially so since Budweiser is now owned by In-Bev.......a Belgian beer company

Budweiser Budvar - Beer of Kings
Budweiser (AB) - King of Beers

Fresh air and good hike will clear your head. This ride has been anything but boring.

Maybe those Belgian monks know something we don't.
