Hungary

After a hard two days of wine tasting in Hungary, I hit a thermal spa to soak in the therapeutic waters. This one had a salt hill. The only one of its kind in Europe

For about $3, you could climb up the stairs to the lookout in the tower in this big church
I like to go up in the church towers because there is also a great view of the city from the top

Budapest is actually two cities
Buda and Pest.
This is a shot from Buda looking across the Danube river at Pest

Going to the opera was a last minute decision.
The truth is, the opera was a bit long and boring.
I like Wagnerian operas.
And Falstaff was hard to follow because the subtitles were in Hungarian.
But it beats sitting at home picking your nose

My seat was really good.
I was on one of the little balconies toward the front.
They had a few select seats reserved for VIP's. And since no VIP's showed up, they released these seats at 2 pm for peons like me.

Night at the opera

The were 3 seats in the box I was in.
But the were some other opera geeks that were crashing the party in the box.
There were two other Americans in the box with me. They bought some drinks and carried them in to the box. The Opera Geeks made a stink about it and told them to not come in with their drinks.
So I was a bit concerned about opening a bottle of wine in front them since they seemed to like to play by the rules.
But I said screw it and opened the bottle. And I never realized how much noise a cork screw in to a cork makes until I did it at a Hungarian opera with 3 opera geeks watching behind me.
At the end of the first act, as soon as the conductor dropped his baton and the curtain came down, one of the opera geeks shot out the door. About 45 seconds later, one of the ushers came in to the box and told me that I couldn't drink my drink in there.
I can't believe that opera geek ratted me out.
I wanted to push him off the balcony
What an ass

Daily fresh installments, keeps the magic going. From Amsterdam to a Hungarian opera. Will be a sad day when this journey ends....

I am curious about something.
How does one stumble across my blog (RR)?
It interests me how you all found my blog
I started to follow your RR in January, when I saw your bike in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. The sticker of "the flying Dutchman" came familiar when I saw the bike, and I knew I've seen it somewhere before (of course it was here)

How I ended up in ADV Rider?.... Looking for places where to ride. Which I haven't done anything yet.

Living the dream??????

You think I am living the dream?
Sleeping in vineyards and abandoned houses.
Waking up and having spiders walking across your face.
Being so cold and wet you never think you can get warm again.
Blah blah blah

I am not living the dream
But I will tell you who is.

The cushy hostel I am staying at here in Budapest is full of teenage kids from all over the world.
What the hell are they doing here?
Shouldn't they be in a boring classroom learning the 3 R's like we all did?
Instead they are gallivanting around Europe with daddy's debit card in their pocket.
They are up until 3 am in the morning drinking until someone needs to carry them up to bed.
And then they are hooking up and fucking like rabbits in the dorm rooms (yes, I can here it).
Who do these kids think they are ? Paris Hilton?
Well I hate them.
So when you are at work reading my RR and you start to hate me.......STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!! Hate these punk ass kids.
They are living the dream.
Ok, I have it pretty good too
