It was built on the side of the big river that separates Thailand from Burma.

What an awesome place to spent the night
The only drawback was it was in the village
So people were nearby and kids were playing in the road making noise.
I put on some tunes on my i pod and enjoyed the sunset.
Some locals came by in the morning to check out the new gringo that had moved in to their neighborhood. I shook their hands and smiled. I also showed them a map of the route i had taken around the world. But since it looked like it was the first time they had ever seen a map, i don't think they had any idea what i was trying to tell and show them. I think the whole town was releaved when i packed up my things and moved on :-)

Firstly, I have really enjoyed your ride report, thanks for taking us all along. I am a Florida boy in Madrid right now for work and had the time to get reintroduced to your ride report ( I had made it through Alaska the last time around). Second, its very inspiring and enjoyed all of South America; you really captured the essence. I thought I was going to get down there for a work visit in January and see the Dakar but my boss wants one of my employees to go and wants me to go to Juarez instead to the operations center . I will be sure to pack my bullet proof vest .

What it has done for me and am sure others, is lit the fire again to go out and conquer-do a solo ride- mine being out west. I have been working on my 950 Adv to get it ready for several years, last things are the water pump/fuel pump (already did the clutch slave and will tear it down this summer and do all that so hopefully mechanically shes ready. I plan to load it up and ship it out to Utah, fly out and take ten days and do a big loop drop it back off at a shop and fly home. You convinced me I can do it. I told the wife about SA and some of the unfortunate things that happened to you and others and how long you have been gone-she was more than happy for me to travel for 10 days in the states- so I owe you one!!!
Anyhow thanks for the inspiration and, I saw the tree man today in Sol; he says hello !!! May the wind be always at your back and God speed.

Riding Suit

Ed, I'm amazed how you keep your riding suit so clean. When you first started this trip in your light colored suit I thought "this is going to look good a few miles down the road".

How do you do it?

First off, this is a new suit. It is a ventilated Rev'it suit with a zip in thermal/waterproof liner. I have to say it is absolutely perfect for the riding here in SE Asia. In fact, i had a rainy/muddy day today. I stayed warm and dry but my suit is a mess. Of course, i will post pictures when i can.
I am going to spend the night inside Burma.....not legally i might add. It might be an iteresting night.

Dude, are u trying to create a suspense episode for your rtw rr? Thailand looks so cool! Me thinks you don't need to anger the Burmese! They don't f* around with "not legal" in Burma!

I have really enjoyed you RR. Seeing you in Thailand and seeing the differences in prices is astounding. How much is gas in that part of the world?
