Yes, going thru Colombia.
Everything I have heard is that it is one of the prettiest countries in So America.
Plus I met 13 guys from Colombia on my last guided Cabo trip (see pics in my blog)
These guys assured me it is safe and they will take care of me
I can't wait

A quick question, are you going to ride through Columbia? I've been told its a little safer but that could be a relative thing. Stay safe and have fun!

I jus spent 30+ days and about 5000 miles traveling thru Mexico without a single problem
It is very safe there
Tons of police and military there watching over things.
But if you go looking for trouble, you will find it
I have my bike searched a few times.
I had nothing to worry about since I was not doing anything wrong.
But if you are carrying drugs or guns with you, you might not be heard from again.
Just a warning...................leave that stuff at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They even had a dog sniffing my bike for drugs at one check point.
Mexico is such a beautiful country too
Everyone should check it out

Not complaining, I prefer being cool, as I can dress for it, compared to being too hot, which I am told I can not undress enough for...and not end up in trouble. One of the things I am discovering from your and other ride reports is that in CA - apparently one can adjust temperature by changing elevation..nice! (Yeah, it happens everywhere, but not as dependably it seems...)

Its also VERY satisfying to hear first hand reports from some of these places, when there is so much negative rumor and innuendo from people who are NOT traveling. Its pretty sad when it comes to light that some people's comfort zone is living with such a level of fear and ignorance.

I just appreciate the time and effort it takes to A, take the pics, B, write out and document your experiences, and C, upload them to share them. Much appreciated.

Hoping you have a great New Year to come!

Campwhere app

For instance if its private land, the owner might not want you here and call the authorities. If its public land there are probably laws about setting up a tent. Or maybe it's cause I'm from NY and there's a lot more hospitality once you get out of the tristate area :-)
Get campwhere app on your smart phone. 10,000 public places to camp with full info. $5

But the best places are the ones that no one else would ever think about camping there

Second night in Belize
It's very different here as compared to Mexico.
People are friendly here but I dont feel as safe as I did in Mexico
I have only seen one policeman so far
He stopped me
Very friendly
He told me that I have a cool bike and sent me on my way
Not a lot of nice beaches here
But the beer is good
I even stopped and did some wine tasting on the side of the road
It was wine made from all kinds of strange plants ans flowers
None was any good
I did buy a liter of berry wine. It was pretty tasty. And at five dollars, it was a value to
I am camped on the beach here
I hope I make it thru the night and my bike is still with me

well, I survived the night here in Belize without incident. I think this danger stuff might be over-rated. But I still don't want to let my guard down.

paradise?

From your prospective, I am sure my pictures look like I am living in paradise

White sandy beaches
Warm water
Cold beers

But there are some things you probably don't see that detract from the whole experience.

First......the bugs
It isn't the mosquitos.
After Alaska, comparably, there really aren't that many.
It's the sand flies
Or noseeums
The bite at your feet and ankles. I have about 50 bites on each foot right now and they itch.
Then, there's the heat. It's about 90 degrees here every day. Perfect for the beach, but a little warm for wearing a jacket and pants while on the motorcycle. It's ok when going fast, but going thru Towns, it can get hot
The nights have been ok
I didnt even use my sleeping bag last night
It is pretty warm with a nice sea breeze

Right now, I am trying to figure out where to go next
New years is coming up
And then my birthday a couple of days later
It would be nice to be somewhere where there are people to celebrate these days with

It is nice not having any definite plans
But it is also nice knowing that I have a plan
And since I am traveling solo, those plans can change quickly and without consideration of any one else

Ok, back in the water.........gotta get away from all these bugs

Yes, I hear the beauty in Belize lies under the water
And it sure is not with their women
Ha
I have heard stories about those wild Brazilian women
I am kind of scared to travel there
Thanks Scubalong for following along
I am raising my glass of rum punch on the beach here to you

BTW, the rum punch here on the beach in Placentia Belize is only two dollars US a glass
The beers are more
There is only one brewery here.......Belikin
It is pretty good stuff but its expensive since there is a monopoly. One guy told me that there is a 500 dollar fine for bringing Mexican beer in to the country
Thats ok
I was looking to something else
