Sounds like a great plan! Agreed, why be in a hurry. Put off the office cubicle as long as possible! Like the Dutch lass's BTW. Used to date one years ago. They're sweet, cultured, and quite pretty.

Cheers,

I've wondered about the weight too
But honestly, I probably don't want to know......it might scare me

I didnt realize it until I got to the Paso border.
And it was the easiest border crossing so far.
Either that or I have become more patient.

El Valle Panama

I spent a couple of nights in El Valle.
It is a mountain town about 50 miles from Panama City.
Instead of 90+ degrees, it is 77 degrees.
A welcome relief from the heat.

I stayed at a hostel in town and met a Germen gal living in Norway. She spent 6 months traveling from Nicaragua to Panama on a bicycle. She was at the end of her trip. I took the top box off my bike and she and I rode to the beach. It was the first time I had someone on my bike since my ex GF.

Punta Chame

We headed to Punta Chame.
It is this cool sand spit with beautiful white sandy beaches.
The water was crystal clear.
But there are some jelly fishes as my new friend found out
You could see Panama City to the southeast.
And some little islands offshore

Nitro City

At the end of Punta Chame is Nitro City. It is a hotel/resort owned by Travis Pastrana. There you can ride your dirt bike.
Wake board and jump on the water ramps
Or just hang out by the pool or swim in the blue waters of the Pacific.

That night, I splurged and bought one of the best wines in the world.
1996 Faustino 1 Gran Reserva
YUM!!!!!
I got some of the other back packer to chip in for a taste.
But I paid the oin's share and I had the lion's share of the wine too
And for the record, I didn't steal the bottle.
(inside joke)

Changing of the guard

I noticed a few backpackers were not using a tent. They had only a hammock. She was using a high tech hammock that incorporated a bug screen and rain fly. Since she was at the end of her bicycle trip, she sold the hammock to me. This is a picture of the deal being consumated.
Look for some pictures of me and my new hammock soon

The next day, I rode in to Panama City.
I took a bad route as it dumped me in to the city center and I had to ride thru the middle of the hellish traffic.
Those taxi drivers sure know how to make riding a motorcycle interesting.
Once working my way thru the traffic, I found the city to be beautiful

There is a lot of new construction going on here.
Business is booming.
This is a town and country to watch.
Lots of foreign investment and banking.
It would be a nice to live actually.
I walked along the ocean front from the old town where I stayed to the downtown along the waterfront. I was the only one walking this beautiful stretch of sidewalk along the waterfront.
I thought it might be a good idea to cab it back after dark so I didn't get mugged.
I decided to walk back anyway. Mostly because I had spent all my money and I didn't have anything left for a cab ride (more on that in a second).
What I found was a beautiful city ater dark.
There were hundreds of people out for a jog, bike ride, or on rollerskates. And there were lots of police patroling the area. It was completely safe. The town was alive.
As I walked back, I reflected on my trip so far thru Mexico and Central America, I honestly never felt unsafe anywhere. It seems these countries are trying to change their tune and promote tourism and commerce. They have hired lots of police and are making efforts to make things safe. NYC city did the same thing years ago and now it is one of the safest cities in the states. And the people that live here are thankful for it.......now they can go out after dark and jog, bike or skate without fear of being mugged. I am thankful for that too.

Traffic

Did I mention that I hate riding thru these big cities on my motorcycle.
It is scary.
My bike is so heavy I can't just whip thru traffic and split lanes like I could on a smaller bike
And since my bike is aircooled, it doesn't like all the stop and go traffic. This is the 3rd time since I started where my temperture guage got up to the 6th bar (upper normal limit). I pulled over for a few minutes to let my bike cool down

Wine Shop

For the first time on my trip, I came across a wine shop and I was like a kid in a candy store.
And it was a really nice wine shop too.
Even though I broke the bank the last 2 nights on wine, I figured that I needed something for my boat ride to Colombia.
So this is why I didn't have any money left for the cab ride back.

I know it is boring for most of the people watching my blog, but this was a lot of fun going thru their wonderful selection. I wish I had some big bucks to spend on the good stuff.
