Sorry to hear about your accident Terry. I hope you heal well and soon both mentally and physically. I can't agree with you more on the wisdom of wearing the gear. Eight years ago my gear absolutely saved my life too. I was broadsided on the highway in northern AZ by a woman who blew through a stop sign in a 3/4 ton pickup truck. Broken femure (2 places), broken back, numerous damaged discs, shattered left wrist, torn up knee and shoulder. Seven surgeries and years of rehab followed.

The next few months will be a hard go. I hope you have loving people in your life who will care for you. I did not and it made the task much more difficult. You will decide very early on how hard you want to fight to get your life back. Fight hard and don't give up. Don't be seduced by pain killers or other shortcuts. It's hard work and it hurts but the rewards are worth it. For a long time I could not see how my life could ever be great again. It did not seem possible. I had lost too much. But it was and is possible. I am happier than I have ever been and I'm glad I did the hard work to be able to enjoy the life I have now. I am not the same as I was before. I live with a lot of pain and there are alot of things I used to love that I can't do anymore but I have learned to be flexible. You will too. It took me a while before I decided to ride again but I did. I'm glad I got back on the bike but it was not easy at first.

Be strong. Fight for your life back, and accept all the help that people will offer. Good luck, sending healing thoughts your way.

What a rig!

Love that wheel chair bike! I'm sure the last thing my wife wants to see is a bike but its good to know its out there. I'm selling my remaining suzukis, a 99 DR650 and a 2002 DL1000 to keep peace in the household. My 19 yr old son was riding the DR on road and gentle off road. The 02 DL 1K is nice, always garaged and ready to go. Ephrata cycle in Ephrata PA will be getting them to sell soon.

ANyway I am overwhelmed with all of your support. I will do my best to keep you up to date.

For what its worth (not much in $$$), I am a life member of RORR (Reading PA off road riders) and of the AMA. All great groups but nothing like Adv Riders!!!

Keep the shiny side up.

Terry, rooting for you to accomplish what you can in rehab.

So saddened to hear of your accident. For some reason this weekend I was thinking a lot about a former pro downhill mountain biker by the name of Tara Llanes. I took a women's clinic with her at Whiteface Mountain probably about 6 weeks before she became a parapalegic after crashing at a Jeep KOM event. It really hit home for me.

I have tracked her progress since and it is fantastic to watch what a strong will can bring for recovery. Look up her story sometime, I hope you will find it as inspiring as I have and that it will give you some things to reach for also.

Look forward to hearing your updates and accomplishments. You've got lots of support here in the ADV community!

Terry,
Really sorry this happened. It has been a long time since we rode together, but I still remember the BMW rally and ride down to WV we did when I got back into riding on my KLR. It was very nice of you to let me tag along. Best of luck on your recovery.
Tom

Hey Terry. My thoughts and prayers are with you buddy. I'll light a candle for your recovery and for those who support you. I think of you on my commute from Baltimore to Silver Spring on I95. You help me remember why we ride and why we need to ride safe and ATGATT.
See there! You help us, we help you.
If you need anything PM me!

Terry,

So sorry to read about your accident. Wishing you the very best as you go through the recovery process. May you fight hard to get back us much as you can, and then carry on making the most of your life! We are here cheering you on!

It is a reminder of the risks of riding that we all face. For me, it just encourages me to be alert and aware. I have the best gear I can get, and know that making me and the bike as visible as possible is critical.

Blessings to you.

Mark
