So thought I'd share a few photos from the coast here.
Riding the coastal redwoods a couple of months ago I had a great ride but came home ALMOST empty handed in the photo department. Really I was just in the mood to ride, which is often the case, and the camera seldom came out. That and the conditions weren't spectacular enough for a place so close to home, but I did take a number of "test" shots with the intent of going back later when things were better.
Even so as sunset approached I new I needed to be somewhere with a view, and the riding became almost frantic. A few minutes later and I would have missed this.....

Really happy with the results, but my mind had an idea for what I wanted to do next time, assuming I could get there a bit earlier to set up the scene a bit.

This last Saturday I was at the IMS Motorcycle show which isn't far from this spot at all. After a day of trying on new bikes for size and watching some supermoto racing I really had the itch for a ride....and I was hungry. Perfect excuse to head up for an evening ride to Alice's. Getting deep into the redwoods with the crisp air feeling perfect I remembered my idea that wanted to come back for someday. Dinner can wait. With throttle open I was on a mission again, and indeed arrived at the same spot with enough time to really enjoy the moment. This is what was in my head...

Nothing wrong with hanging out a little while longer either. Anyone that doesn't believe these colors hasn't ever studied a sunset.

Felt like I got what I came for.

Now for that Burger and Beer at Alice's while I watch the stars come out from the deck. Life is sure alright.

Just found your thread Dave. Nice pictures!
And I know what you mean about the group thing - it's like Ferris said:
"life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop to look around you could miss it."

Been living in Atlanta now for about 6 years, sure do miss home (CA).
I'm from Pasadena and not too schooled on up north - where is Alice's?

hmmm maybe that movie influenced me more than I thought

Alice's is probably one of the more popular bike hangouts in the bay area. Up in the redwoods between Woodside and the coast. Gorgeous area, where I learned to ride motorcycles growing up, so it feels kinda like home still.

Not a bad plan huh? Dream about new bikes in the morning and then go live the dream later in the day!

Winner!

This one's so good it's worth repeating on the same page. One could darn near step into this and go on a hike...

Beautiful photos.

90% of it is being at the right place at the right time. You seem to have an incredible knack for that.

More, please...

That was the only serious shot I took that day. Getting a bunch of decent photos from a ride is great, but often getting just one is like a trophy at the end of the race.

Talking with another photo enthusiast a couple of rides ago we were drawing the analogy between hunting and photography, and the mindset is very similar, as well as the rewards, but if you aren't passionate about the pursuit then it isn't worthwhile.

Not that I NEED things to make riding more interesting, but if it does than great. Some riders dig geocaching, some go on poker runs, or timed enduros or any other kind of destination run. For me the pursuit of the "right place at the right time" is almost as addictive as riding itself.

Oh and more? You bet!

Planning a shot that comes together they way it was envisioned is definitely a high. I've shared a bit of my passion for racing in this thread although I haven't gotten to deep, but here's an example of a plan coming together. To a casual observer this capture just looks like a click of the shutter an there ya go. Getting there was a fair amount more involved, and resulted in one of my favorite motosports shots this summer
