New Years Ride

Starting the new year off right.....taste testing Tri- Tip out of a red plastic cup @ The Junction . Little details like them being closed for business are not going to stop me from eating there!

Yes, this is a shameless plug for one of my favorite hangouts, met the new owners today and they seem like great people and the food is incredible. Finally I can look forward to the food as much as the riding again. they're trying to open by mid January.

Still scrubbin in new tires I was really just out for a ride, but man, the clouds and haze made things interesting enough to Enjoy the moment for awhile more than I planned.

That's when I ran into Veefereeer up at the observatory. Moto Photo extraordinaire himself, it's not often I run into other riders that want to discuss photography as much as I do. Great to meet you up there man!

.....and of course always time to stop for an end of day sun setting over the twisties

Corral Hollow. You've ridden by it plenty of times, just have to turn your head to the side instead of looking at the next apex

I KNEW it was out there! It's like I said, you threw me off with the pic being in spring or early fall.

And veefereefer is definitely on the correct equipment for the road- I've been having a blast on the 450 with the 'tard wheels out there lately.

Thanks for the update and pics. Being from Tracy and working in Livermore I like to take the long way home at times. Nice to know I can still stop at the Junction to fuel myself.

I've been getting in a bad habit these last few weeks of sleeping in and getting a late start, this weekend was no different. Thought I'd go enjoy the gold country taking a few of my favorite back roads up into the foothills.

One good thing about starting late is I was starving by the time I got to La Grange, which I haven't been through in awhile. Turns out one of my old haunts, the La Grange saloon, that was closed the last time I went through was open. Screamin good burgers and cold beer, and if you happen to like a little rock n roll in a historic Gold Rush era bar this is the spot.

Can you see the bike that stands out like a sore thumb? That's the beauty of not caring whether I fit in or not....I'll have a good time anywhere.

Not long ago that may have been the rest of my day right there.....but not now, I've got places to go. I was in sort of a nostalgic, cowboy/miner type mood so up the road a little I had time for quick stop in Coulterville, another town of the same era. Took a closer look at some of the equipment of the day. Right then decided I must come back to this same spot this evening for some nocturnal photography....the day is promising.

Lets not forget what I came here for in the first place, spent the better part of the afternoon riding some dirt roads up by Dogtown/Greely hill. The Foothills have a lot offer.

Chasing the setting sun west I kept true to my intentions of running back to Coulterville (via priest grade/49.....gotta finish breaking in these tires ) Nothing like a small town at dusk, listening to faint music from the local bar down the street.

Sometimes my imagination gets the best of me in these places after dark.....

More cool stuff- and I enjoy the commentary. So what were the settings for the shot with the headlight/brake light streaks? That's my fav of this round.

I'm a sucker for long exposure/light trails.

that was a 30 sec. exposure F8 ISO 100. Part of the fun was figuring out how to use the headlights to illuminate the buildings, and then waiting for the right combination to come along. Got there about 5pm and didn't leave until 8...time flies when you're having fun.

I've been working on mine, but I can't get the stars to stay in place when I keep the ISO in the sweet spot like you're at. Ah well, maybe at some point the little guy will grow up and I'll get to ride more again...

I've found 30 seconds is the longest I can go and still have the stars look sharp, if you look closely you'll see the movement even at 30 sec. If I'm intent on really sharp stars I'll open the aperture and raise the iso and keep it at 15 seconds or less. One of the reasons I stuck with such a low iso was to reduce lens flare for the amount of time that headlights were coming directly at me, you can see it in there, just not awful.
