I KNEW it was out there! It's like I said, you threw me off with the pic being in spring or early fall.

And veefereefer is definitely on the correct equipment for the road- I've been having a blast on the 450 with the 'tard wheels out there lately.

Thanks for the update and pics. Being from Tracy and working in Livermore I like to take the long way home at times. Nice to know I can still stop at the Junction to fuel myself.

I've been getting in a bad habit these last few weeks of sleeping in and getting a late start, this weekend was no different. Thought I'd go enjoy the gold country taking a few of my favorite back roads up into the foothills.

One good thing about starting late is I was starving by the time I got to La Grange, which I haven't been through in awhile. Turns out one of my old haunts, the La Grange saloon, that was closed the last time I went through was open. Screamin good burgers and cold beer, and if you happen to like a little rock n roll in a historic Gold Rush era bar this is the spot.

Can you see the bike that stands out like a sore thumb? That's the beauty of not caring whether I fit in or not....I'll have a good time anywhere.

Not long ago that may have been the rest of my day right there.....but not now, I've got places to go. I was in sort of a nostalgic, cowboy/miner type mood so up the road a little I had time for quick stop in Coulterville, another town of the same era. Took a closer look at some of the equipment of the day. Right then decided I must come back to this same spot this evening for some nocturnal photography....the day is promising.

Lets not forget what I came here for in the first place, spent the better part of the afternoon riding some dirt roads up by Dogtown/Greely hill. The Foothills have a lot offer.

Chasing the setting sun west I kept true to my intentions of running back to Coulterville (via priest grade/49.....gotta finish breaking in these tires ) Nothing like a small town at dusk, listening to faint music from the local bar down the street.

Sometimes my imagination gets the best of me in these places after dark.....

More cool stuff- and I enjoy the commentary. So what were the settings for the shot with the headlight/brake light streaks? That's my fav of this round.

I'm a sucker for long exposure/light trails.

that was a 30 sec. exposure F8 ISO 100. Part of the fun was figuring out how to use the headlights to illuminate the buildings, and then waiting for the right combination to come along. Got there about 5pm and didn't leave until 8...time flies when you're having fun.

I've been working on mine, but I can't get the stars to stay in place when I keep the ISO in the sweet spot like you're at. Ah well, maybe at some point the little guy will grow up and I'll get to ride more again...

I've found 30 seconds is the longest I can go and still have the stars look sharp, if you look closely you'll see the movement even at 30 sec. If I'm intent on really sharp stars I'll open the aperture and raise the iso and keep it at 15 seconds or less. One of the reasons I stuck with such a low iso was to reduce lens flare for the amount of time that headlights were coming directly at me, you can see it in there, just not awful.

Here in California we get all excited about rain these days. In fact I haven't had a drop of rain fall on me while riding since the summer (kind of ironic huh?)

So when a small system was blowing through this weekend I wanted to get out in it. Not that I love riding in a downpour, but I'm also not scared of it, and often these days make for the most memorable rides.
So as the clouds passed over my house I was feeling kind of ripped off without any of the wet stuff. I could see on weather radar that my local Mt Hamilton was engulfed in clouds and wet, so time to suit up, grab a camera and lets go.

Man I love the smell of rain, everything fresh. The sanded roads, now wet, force you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Once again , riding through familiar territory with a unique view. Just a couple of shots this time of a peaceful ride.

Still looks more like fall than winter, but I'll take it.

I just knew if I rode west over the mountain and found the edge of the clouds I'd get a show . By now you guys know how much I try to avoid urban riding, but from a ways away it looks all right to me.

Hmmm, I didn't see anything while I was there, it wasn't until I looked at the photo later

Well thanks for enjoying it! It's no fun sharing if someone else doesn't get it
