Removing 990 Adventure Engine

I was looking through the repair manual and it shows a bracket being attached after removing the oil line (see below):

Is this bracket necessary? What is it used for?

I used an ATV jack and some pieces of wood. Be careful with the oil lines. I left the oil tank and oil lines connected.

I guess if you are a mechanic at a dealership (mythical...are they really out there??), and you have this hanging on the wall along with all the other special tools the dealer had to buy, well then use it.

Otherwise...yep...you can jack on the engine with a block of wood between the cases and the jack.

Sounds good. I'll use some pieces of wood. I'd prefer not to disconnect the oil lines, so I'll have to be careful not to damage them.

Hopefully I won't need that engine-removal bracket anytime soon, but its a cool device that could easily be made with a few scrap pieces of metal that appears to ease the process...

+1 It works very well.

I used a piece of plywood to bridge the gap between the jack's runners.

I don't remember using any blocking to protect the lines, but I may have done so.

I figured it would be a little awkward trying to line up the mounting bolts with one hand while balancing the engine in the other hand. But then, I'm kinda skinny.

I've used a wood panel and 2 pieces of scrap metal to make an engine stand, it's pretty simple and worked good:
one L shaped piece is bolted to one of the sidestand mounting points, the other bracket is bolted to the front of the engine.

Both are simply screwed to the panel

The pic is big, a bit blurry but gives the idea.

I would like an info on your 990 piston height and crank shaft length if any of you have stripped it down..

I had some experiment i wana try out so I need these measurements.

Lifting an old thread about removing an LC8 engine since I have mine out right now cause of an oil leak on the rear cylinder earlier Im looking over the front now!

And an old 80s skateboard to bring it out
