After 50 miles or so of some very very soft dirt/gravel/sand with a lot of back tracking, we finally made it to pavement! I think JD was happy to see some asphalt!





Or maybe it is because I told him that we were really in Mexico!

Sheryl found this on our last trip to Mexico. I think it is the most magnificent thing I have seen there. These huge pictures are made of mosaic. There are thousands of these small different colored pieces of glass used to make the pictures.

It was dark by the time we got to Ciudad Del Maiz. We got settled in at a hotel and had a late supper.

Donnie, wanted to let you know I read your last ride report and enjoyed it. I will be following this one. I have never ridden in Mexico. But I hope to once I retire in 4 years.

The trip got a little more interesting as we passed through Ciudad Valles! A car stopped in front of me to take a left turn, I stopped, but the young man behind me did not quite get stopped. He hit me in the rear! I bumped into the rear of the car in front of me, but I did not fall down and I was injured in any way. The moto had some minor problems. It broke the mount for the left saddlebag, the same mount that holds the passenger peg; the lock on the right saddlebag; the screws on the brake light lens; and it put a small dent in the muffler and broke four rivets! The young man hung around for about 90 seconds and took off!

No problema! I took the part of the bracket off that was still attached to the moto and JD went to find a welder. While he was gone, I "jerry" rigged the brake light lens, put a pipe clamp on the muffler and found a way to attach the right saddlebag to the moto. Then I got a call from JD. He was only a couple hundred yards up the street and a man was taking him to a place to get the bracket welded. I loaded up and went down to the bus shop where JD had been. JD and Alejandro returned a few minuted after I got there and the left saddlebag was mounted. The welding was excellent! When I showed them the rivets on the muffler, it was deemed best to take the moto to the same shop that did the welding and get the rivets replaced. So JD and I followed Alejandro to the shop. Johnathan, the young man that had done the excellent job of welding the aluminum bracket replaced the rivets and we were ready to roll. Three and a half hours and $20 and we were good to go!

Alejandro would accept no payment for his substantial assistance, but he did allow us to take him out for a seafood lunch. Alejandro is a diesel mechanic at the bus shop that his father has owned for 40 years! Good people!
