Excellent build, I have followed this from day one
Your attention to detail is outstanding, getting to be a rare thing these days.

Have you posted your build to the Samba yet? They'd really get a kick out of it.

Thanks guys...been driving it all day today and it's absolutely great! Sooooo much fun It drives a lot nicer now with the 2.5 installed, takes off nice and smooth and runs through the gears nicely without feeling like it's laboring to do it. Climbing hills is a breeze now...with enough power to actually accelerate up hill instead of having to down shift like crazy. The computer is re-learning it's throttle positions etc, the surge is gone now and it idles smooth as butter :-). Also hooked up the purge line from the top of the charcoal canister to the port on the manifold, no more smelling fumes from the open canister now.

First up today I cleaned the engine bay and wiped down the exhaust. Topped the coolant off to get it ready to drive again. I noticed each time I take the pressure cap off the surge tank it tightens up in a slightly different position that it was before, slightly tighter. It just didn't feel like it was solid and sure enough...pop. The cap will get tight then pop loose and get tight again. Now I'm sure this is where the coolant was coming from yesterday.

I was warned about the quality of this tank/cap by a couple other people before I installed it that had the same tanks fail. The plastic on the tank is thin and feels cheap compared to the OEM unit. Sooooo I decided to remove the new tank and install my solid but stained OEM tank till I can find a good quality new tank to replace it with.

While we were out driving today we stopped by the original owners house, Ann thought it looked great :-) We took a photo with her while we were there,

I think I will adjust the front shocks down a bit tomorrow, looking forward to getting more "test" miles on it :-) New fridge and propex install coming soon.

More test miles today.

Went to a friends house last night and drove home in the dark, the new headlights are amazing compared to the stock square lights. They are really bright and throw a lot of usable light, they will really be a plus out on the open back roads. The HID lights on the front bar and pretty sweet as well, typical HID they really light up the night!

Rolled to the Ihop first thing this am.

Stopped and purged, filled and leak checked the new propane tank. All good, no leaks :-)

Up to a couple hundred miles now and everything is going great so far. Played with the adjustment on the front shocks a little, brought the front end down to 20.250", about as low as you can go without getting interference between the shock and the axle under hard bumps. I'll roll with it like this for a while, may end up swapping out the front springs and cranking up the shock higher to get my ride height so I can level out the bus....we'll see.

Next weekend I hope to tackle the truck fridge and Propex (propane heater) install. Going to be nice not having to worry about food spoiling in the fridge and being able to stay toasty warm at night. :-) I'll post updates as they happen.

I am going to bet you can buy a nicely done one for way less than it costs in parts to build it....
