The campground was really nice. Clear Creek was another Federal, cement toilet, honor system type of campground. Getting ALPINE!!!!

Scott's tarp came in REALLY handy at this campground.

Wednesday July 4 2012.
We get to Colorado, and finish the day with jello shooters!!!

Although I was happy with my bike fix, I was still gun shy. I chose to bypass the dirt today so I could build some confidence that the bike is really OK><
Again, we split the same way we did on Tuesday. Lonestar, Bill and me take off for Abiquiu to meet everyone for lunch, then on to camp around Spectacle Lake Co.

We saw some wonderful scenery on the way.

Lonely roads that lead to lonely little towns.

Abiquiu reservoir

We ate lunch at Bodie's General Store. Great place to get gas, a bite to eat and a local souvenir.
The burro was so good I ate the whole thing........ UGH....I was sleepy all afternoon!

And into Colorado

Being that it is my camera, the lens door malfunctioned the whole trip.... Sometimes it opened the whole way and sometimes it did niet.

It rained pretty hard at times during the night. Again our camp was reduced to the size of Scotties tyvec tarp. Still evident in this photo from Thursday 7/5.

We had a very nice family offer us food and jello shooters. With the exception of a crazy bastard in the middle of the night in Rawlins (story to follow) the folks at the campgrounds were extraordinarily friendly and hospitable.
People seemed extra cool to me along the way. I am no where near as hospitable...

Good mornin' Scott

The camp of the friendly family is in the background.

I loved this place...

And back out on the CDR:

We all rode the CDR today

The campsites were nice, but it felt pretty dumb to arrive in pouring rain and not able to start a campfire.

I didn't mention that yet... We were in Idaho or Montana before we were allowed to have a camp fire. Our ride coincided with the huge fires from Arizona to Wyoming. One of the Ancient Mariners lives in the Colorado Springs area and was evacuated from his house just before he was to get on his bike and ride the CDR!!! Thankfully, his home was ok and he was able to make the ride.

All the fire hazard level signs showed "extreme danger" all along the way.... We ended up only having 2 campfires.

OIT... Take one of them ready made fireplace logs.. Chop it up in small chunks ..
Carry them small pieces with ya ... They make great fire starters .. And will get any wet wood going a blaze.. Yuppers OIT...

Jax ... This was 7 yrs ago when we were moving from BlueGrass,Va...
But wound up here in Bastian.. I bet if we had more then the 90 days to find a place /Close/and move a whole farm.. We could be in NM right now....
