This was a little bike that I really wanted as a kid. Found one the other day. A little rough, but all there (minus headlight and tail light).

Curious to know if anyone has any experience with this little bike? Is the rotary valve system fairly reliable? Any insight would be welcome.

Thanks.

A friend had a nice clean one. All 3 of his kids learned to ride on it. They ran the beans outta it. Never faultered, no issues. Just run good injector oil, keep things in adjustment and dont overheat it real bad trying to run big highway speeds and it should last as long as theirs did easily.

One of my best buds bought one brand new in 1973 it was turquois with red stripes. We spent hours going back and fourth over who's bike was best, I rode a Mini Enduro. Then we would go out and race on our neighborhood moto cross track, it was great, half the time he would win and the other half I would win, we still have belly laughs over the stupid stuff we did on those bikes back then! As I remember the biggest problem he had with that bike were the footrests, they didn't fold and eventually the bolts holding them to the bottom of the engine broke and pulled out. But you have to remember this bike was hammered day in and day out for a couple of years. but it always started and was ready to ride with no more than a fresh spark plug.

I have a little experience and a glowing faded memory of the Gaucho. It was my first bike. It would go anywhere a youngin would wanna go. It even carried my heavy stepfather up a really steep grade the day we purchased the bike; $100 in '73 or '74.

I loved that thing. It was a real motorcycle with real motorcycle wheels. It would do a legit 50 to 55 on a flat. My friend had a Hodaka 100 that must have been geared too low since he could never really outrun me on the big end. I think he may have had a plugged pipe at the time, but I didn't care.

The bike was pretty bullet proof. I had to have the spark plug hole heli-coiled once (my fault? likely), the piston replaced once (IIRC) and I kept repairing tube punctures, but that was about it. I fiddled with it more than I fixed it.

It even tolerated my Gordon Jennings tuning phase. I cut away the rotary valve a smidgen and installed a slightly thicker base gasket to increase top rpm hp. We moved and the bike was sold before I could get the head milled.

I wish I had another one in the stable. I think you'll be happy with it. If not, I got a home for it.
