Thanks, I turned around and got off the bike to get it. The light could have been better.

That's great, rick

the fruit trees are just starting to bloom here, but lots of them are going straight to leaves without any real blossoms to speak of.

It's kind of a bummer, one of my favorite parts of spring is watcing the dogwoods flower - I like the way they just appear in the woods like ghosts. I haven't seen a single dogwood flower this year- on Sunday I rode south-ish for 75 miles, the west-ish for 50... nothin'.

The jury is still out here but some of the Dogwoods are showing signs.

I was seeing a lot of redbud trees doing their thing when I rode home from Roanoke yesterday, but they haven't started blooming in the Lexington area yet. The goddddammm grass is sure growing like crazy, though . I usually have to mow it 2X per week for the first month after it starts it's annual growth cycle. I hate that stuff, but I think I'd hate a mud bog worse, so I just gripe about it and spend about 6 hours a week riding my JD mower instead of my bikes.

whatcha doing Sunday?

Me and Hawk were thinking about grabbing a cheeseburger somewhere halfway between, like Wytheville-ish.

I won't know if I can actually do this until I get through this day, so for right now this is just thinking out loud.

what do you think?

That would have been perfect, but I'm headed to the wildest parts of West Virginia to see Lulu at 0600 tomorrow morning.

I will for sure take a rain check though.

Hey, nice redbud trees!I love it when those things burst out, what an unusual color for a tree, and they are so prolific. It's the surest sign of spring for me. Coming from a lifetime in the Rocky Mountain states those things are so unusual that I guess I just am really struck by them. I saw one close to home yesterday just beginning to burst forth.

Well, Boondoggle, with three lawn mowers and two tractors, I guess you're the winner (loser? ) in the grass-cutting competition. We've got one push mower, the JD riding mower, several weed eaters, and an International 674 with a 72" bush hog on it to keep our little farm under control. That tractor is a wonderful piece of equipment, stone reliable and very low maintenance. I think it's a 1980 model or so, can't really tell, but it's a sweet tool. I wish I had a loader and ROPS (roll-over protection & safety) kit for it, gets a bit puckersome on some of the hills we mow. And, I could build some jumps for my WR if I had a loader! Don't have a photo of it directly, but it's back there, captured by accident in a motorcycle photo of course:

Have a good day, guys. I'm off to prune, trim, and mow with hopefully a few hours of daylight left over for a short ride this afternoon. Once it warmed up the stuff is growing amazingly fast!

Doug

The Purple Fiddle

A four day weekend, new tires and great weather; what to do? Ride 300 miles to have a beer with friends.

Saturday was clear and cool. I just shot a few random pics on the way to West Virginia.

Checked out a couple side roads and got a little turned around before finding my way over the James River.

Sometimes it's nice to get a little lost.

Virginia 43 from Buchanan to Eagle Rock, a premiere motorcycle road, IMO

These pics don't really do it justice...

Spotted an anticline on Craig Creek Road.

Pee break on Dolly Ann Drive.

606 up the east side of Warm Springs Mountain.

Switchback shot, a la Kevin and Silke.
