ADV-Spec Install

Sometime when time is more abundant I'll actually get around to installing all the parts on my shelf for my bike, but until then, I'll ask annoying, paranoid questions.

I have a set of ADV-Spec Crash Bars. The install hardware is steel, and the block is aluminum.

Thoughts on anti-seize? Loc-Tite?

The install took me about 30 minutes. Pretty easy, compared to the install of another company's crash bars on the wife's F650GS which required lots of bending cursing and a little blood. As per the instructions I used blue locktite on all of the mounts and be careful not to torque them too much. Love these crash bars, very solid.

Just straightened mine after a heavy hit/crash.
20min mostly spent being retentive.
Bars did their job quite well!
No damage to the engine mounts.
Reinstalled upper bolts with blue Loacktite.

Very happy.

A little loc-tite always helps keep things tight and stops the corrosion between dissimilar metals.

+1 on loc-tite. Just be carefull and inspect the bolts from the crash bar kit. In my case I found out that most of them were low quality. All four used for connecting the crossbar seized half way. The one on the right side which goes through the frame was also suspicious quality. When I started to tighten it with a torque wrench it start squeaking so i left it with a few Nm less than specified.
Other than that, these crash bars are top notch. But since you bought them you all ready know that

Like anything with multiple mointing points. Put everything together finger tight, tighten in the reccomended order to reccomended tourqe. Then remove one bolt at a time, apply BLUE MEDIUM STRENTH loctite and reinstall. GH

One thing I should have mentioned about Loc-tite is that it takes iron molecules to set up. It doesn't work well with high quality stainless bolts into aluminum. They make a prep you can spray on the bolt which has iron molecules. Even if it doesn't set up hard it still stops the corrosion between dissimilar metals.
