TAT my first ride report.
Hello Fellow ADVers,
My names Erin, you can call me C3. I'm 22 years old, i've lived in southern NH my whole life and i've been riding motorcycles for just over a year. I bought my first dirt bike last October, a 1985 xr200 that I beat the hell out of in a sand pit for a couple months. Regrettably the xr is sold and has been replaced with a 2000 DRZ400s. I've put about 5,000 miles on it over the past 5 months, Over all i've got about 30,000 miles on 2 wheels. I really dont know what my skill level is on a motorcycle let alone technical dirt stuff as i've also ridden solo or with my brothers who have just started ridding. Needless to say I'm sure i will struggle with some sections of the trail, But a challenge is what i'm looking for! On a one night test run up into Maine. ![]() Shot at 2012-06-27 ![]() Shot at 2012-06-27 I've been on a couple single night trips and one couple week trip i took down to Florida this last winter. here's a couple photos of the Florida trip The morning i left, So cold the lady at the toll didn't let me pay. ![]() ![]() Shot at 2012-06-27 NJ Pine barrens. Love this place. Might camp here on the way down to the Tennessee. ![]() Shot at 2012-06-27 ![]() ![]() Shot at 2012-06-27 Just went to replace my throttle cable with a motion pro and found out it's an inch or two too short. also found out the cable that i'm using is frayed. I'm going to have to find a cable while on the move. ![]() Shot at 2012-06-27 I better finish this beer and get back to packing. The bike currently looks like this ![]() ![]() Shot at 2012-06-27 To be continued See-Three screwed with this post 07-04-2012 at 08:13 PM |

you'll be glad you did the cross brace on the wolfman mounts. It serves two purposes, strengthens the frame and adds a nice grab handle. Check my link below on tools to carry for your DRZ. looking forward to your report. Take care young padawan.

Read OLH's prep thread and then his ride report. Most informative and entertaining. He has been most helpful to me in prepping my DRZ for the western TAT. As soon as my wife goes on her vacation, I will roll the DRZ into the dining room and finish up the maintenance on the swingarm!!!

Saddle sore
The night before my planned departure I was doing some last minute maintenance on the bike when I went to start the bike to warm the oil for an oil change i got nothing! You've gotta be kidding me! this was the first time i ever had trouble starting the bike. I ended up finding a couple cut wires that fixed my neutral light being out but that was it. 5am the next I went out with with a clear mind and removed the clutch safety switch. Problem solved!
![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 The ride down the the start of the TAT was absolutely brutal. partly because of the serve lack of sleep and the fact that I stuck to interstate on a stock DRZ seat with 14 46 gearing. The lack of sleep was the real killer, i had to stop about every 50 miles for a quick sugar buzz or a nap on a park bench. I rode right thought the night dodging deer on the Blue Ridge Parkway ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 Also rode most of the next day on the BRPW. Didn't take many pictures, we've all seen them before ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 break time ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 End of day two. I made it a few miles into the TAT and found myself a campsite. ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 End of day two ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 Both wrists look like this, ouch. ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 Shot at 2012-06-30 First full day on the TAT: Back home I painstakingly put the TAT into my GPS. turns out half the files for TN got screwed up which has forced me to use the roll charts, It's definitely slowing down. The heat has been debilitating. Must find water and shade! ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 Overall I'm a little disappointed my the lack of dirt roads in TN. Other than that the roads are fantastic for riding. By the end of day three i had put 238 miles on the TAT, 254 in total. ![]() Shot at 2012-06-30 |
