As to the '8 feet' that is one tall horse. Instead of going for 8 feet, why not go all the way and propose 50 foot tall horses?

Duh? Have you no brain to understand the point of a fall from a given distance? If not I understand if you follow the yellow brick road to see some gaseous looking guy, then kill off a witch, you might get a brain. I understand there was a 1939 documentary about some scarecrow guy doing this along with some chick who was lost and some tin guy who was heartless.

Hey, you guys in Oz ever see that yellow brick road? Any witches still around? That's where the documentary said it all happened.

Dumb ass!

Motorcycling is no more dangerous than showering, in reality, if one pays attention, goes ATGATT and rides at "reasonable" speeds (and no, I am not going to define "reasonable" ). That being said, some people are just terrified of motorcycles but still want to ride one. I usually warn people who are that afraid that they may want to find another passtime. If you are out there worrying about what could happen, you are more dangerous both to yourself and others than those of us who ride without that worry.

Guess I'm trying to say that the more dangerous you think motorcycling is, the more dangerous you are on a bike.

I disagree with that. Being aware of potential dangers and being prepared for them rationally helps to mitigate the actual risk. A lot of dead riders apparently weren't aware of the dangers because they were riding without a helmet on, traveling at excessive speed, drinking, etc. I suspect there are more dead overconfident riders than dead overcautious riders.

I don't know about that. I've known people who were oblivious of the risks, that's not safe at all. I believe the key is a healthy respect for what can happen.I believe riding is as safe as you are. Everyone knows riders who have riden for years and not been down once and everyone knows riders who have riden for years and they have been down multiple times. Obviously riding is safer for one of those people than it is for the other one. You can blame outside variables for the differences all day long but what it aways comes back to is the rider who has been down alot has been putting himself in situations to cause that and the rider who has never been down has kept himself out of those situations.

Being terrified of motorcycles is one thing. Being aware of the risks and knowing how to mitigate them to the best of your ability is something totally different. Maybe I muddied my point a bit...I did not say (and never will) that there are not risks to be mitigated, just that being afraid of riding makes your mind more worried about crashing and less consious of your riding. Panic is never a good thing...

By all means do the ATGATT proving you are terrified of riding and unsure of your skills. Best yet. take the ATGATT to the logical conclusion, gear up and go hide in the closet quivering in fear.

Admittedly I'm not ATGATT. I am MTGMTT (Most of The Gear Most of The Time). I'm certainly not a gear nazi. As much as I try not to make mistakes and I would like to think I don't make mistakes, I'm not perfect, I know that I make mistakes. The gear is to lessen the potential fallout from those mistakes.

I wear gear to protect me from the elements. The impact and abrasion protection of proper gear is just an added bonus.

I do not believe riding is dangerous... At least not in the way most people (and even most riders) assert. That said I have been down four times due to road contaminates and countless times off road and it was always the gear that minimized my healing to a couple days of ibuprofen for the sore muscles.

Well, quite obviously Christopher D'Olier Reeve (September 25, 1952 – October 10, 2004) was unable to retain HIS grip on the reins, and so, did not fall on HIS feet!

Difficult to hitch a ride on a tornado in Kansas, and then be plunked-down here! How long would one be held aloft, then survive sub-zero stratospheric temperatures, and be able to avoid Drop Bear attack while still partly conscious and battered by a high altitude drop without the aid of a parachute?

You'd really be needing a good fairy, or witch, after all that!

Gee, brilliant. Because one guy couldn't hold on, nobody can. I wish I was the clear thinking philosopher that you obviously are.
