Yes, JC and JP or on the 2012 Dakar bile as there are only 3 new ones ready at the moment, but even then they may not be in final form - engines?

Still another 2 1/2 months though

Not sure that Honda are keen on any sponsors other than their own, but of course some of the team may have brought along a little "baggage"

Ditto. I think the new rally bike looks awful. I know, in these cases it's function over form, but Honda has nothing on the dashing good looks of the KTM 690RR and 450RR.

Go Helder!!

A casual observation/opinion...

Ummm... the arse end of the "old" bike looks like it is slimmer/has better mass centralisation than the "factory" offering (not to mention comments/observations about previous generation "tech" like aluminuim subframes/welded/fabricated alu. sidetanks). Wonder how the two compare weightwise?

But then again, these are only a few casual observations gleaned from an arbitrary collection of facebook photo's... I don't have a battery of HRC computers, technicians and CAD drawings to fall back on...

... and as the middle aged cheerleader in the stands (above) keeps reminding us it is (may) not (BE) the FINAL version we are witnessing. But still pretty close to "showtime" to be working on development?

In either case, it is nice to see someone coming out with a big bucket and spade to play in the orange sandpit... 5 rider squad is an impressive armada of guns to bring to the battle.

Makes me wonder what the Mattighofen crew are up to...?

Probably "game as usual" I would suspect... they have been the standard by which all others must measure themselves, with regard to bikes, riders, team structure/organisation AND marketing professionalism (for at least 10 years or so).

So, as we like to say down under in Oz; "it's one thing to catch up someones dust... passing them is a whole other ballgame..."

I disagree - the new one looks the business with the clear faring. The old white faring with those small lights looks out of perspective.

One part of me is mega excited about HRC being back in the game, but does anything think the bike is under developed?

The reason I suggest this is that the 450x has languished with zero changes for 5 years. Honda evidently didn't have the money.

I worry this new bike is a project and temporary. Or has Honda really really got its R&D mojo back? Is Honda tired of being no one in rallies? How long is Honda committing to this bike?

Troy - do you know anyone at Honda who is now pushing this new direction or is this simply a short term brain fart?

I mean funding all this must cost a fortune and last time I looked Honda wasn't opening its wallet to bike development let alone 5 man international factory teams. How many dollars are involved here?

It's massive - but with all these things you can assume that there is budget input from 3 Continents at least?

So, with maybe 3 international tests, one warm up rally, 30? man team, 5 riders, 5 riders "packages", support vehicles, logistic costs for the kit, the flights, accommodation, expenses, other staff salaries, all the Japanese R&D, ancilliaries such as marketing, the bikes and the small aspect of the Dakar itself with all of the associated costs - plus whatever comes afterwards - US$ 7 - 10 milion ?

So is this a way to R&D the 450x? Assuming there's lower cost ways to do R&D I think you're saying Honda has its mojo back ?
