I was dumbfounded when I recieved the news (from too old) on tuesday morning... first Sam going down hard and THEN Felipe's accident shortly thereafter.
Someone must have backed one of the HRC team box vans over a cardboard carton full of black cats! ![]() Obviously a stressfull couple of days for Felipe and Sam's families and HRC keeping wraps on a public statement during the time that passed... the three big questions for mine just now are; 1. Hopes and prayers to Felipe and his family for a full recovery. 2. Postive energy heading Sam's way for as speedy a recovery/rehabilitation as possible... hope to see him back in the saddle at full capacity by the time the FIM rally calender kicks in. ![]() 3. When HRC make the official announcement as to what happened and who (if) will fill the (one or both) vacant slots at HRC for the "big show" in january? Or will they just run with the three rider squad now? ![]() I put my vote "in" for setting the wheels in motion, with a few e-mails and phone calls just over 48 hours ago... Waiting to see now with great apprehension what the brass at HRC decide put forth as a statement, and plan to do as far as the Dakar 2013 squad is concerned... ![]() Again, thoughts and prayers with Felipe and a "get well soon" to Sam... rotten luck mate!

Thoughts and prayers for Sam and Felipe. Rotten news.
Fingers and toes crossed for Felipe's recovery, such bad news , but he is in the best hands. Shit news none the less. Mr Honda do you want Jakes number? I have it right here.

Last Tuesday our champion suffered an accident while training for the Dakar Rally and has been hospitalized in the United States, as most of you know. As of this moment we don't have an official medical bulletin but the news are encouraging. Zanol's mechanic, Ricardinho, arrived last night in the United States and was with the pilot who hit his head during the fall and nedeed to go into induced coma. The fact is that Zanol got out of the coma, since his intracranian pressure lowered enough. According to Ricardinho, our champ is still not fully awake but answers to all stimuli and is recovering within the expectations. We ask everyone to keep praying and sending positive energy towards Zanol, he is a warrior and we have faith that he will overcome these difficult moments very soon. Thank you for everyone's strenght, GOOOOO ZANOL! Ângela Monteiro, Mundo Press, Zanol's attachee" |

Honda TEAM HRC riders, Zanol and Sunderland injured during Dakar testing
TEAM HRC has announced that rider Sam Sunderland and Felipe Zanol have been injured after crashing during a pre-Dakar testing session in the Mohave Desert, California, of the United States. On day one (Monday 3 December) of the planned five-day test, British rider Sunderland was injured. The 23-year-old was taken to hospital where initial scans revealed fractures to his left arm and left wrist. On day two (Tuesday 4 December), Brazilian rider Zanol suffered head injuries. The 31-year-old was immediately airlifted to a local hospital. TEAM HRC will give full support and hopes that the riders are on their way to recovery. We will communicate any news on their condition, as we will inform you on the riders’ participation of the 2013 Dakar Race. HRC statement - pretty much as expected, let's hope the "full support" comment is just that ! ![]() ![]()

Previous Team HRC chain-of-thought:
- if we win, the bike is exceptional - if we don't, its the rider's fault. I sincerely hope their Dakar effort is operating with a different frame of mind. Judging from the press release, maybe not. |
