) does not come cheap... because as tim pointed out also... even if it is "HRC" money is obviously not "no object". ![]() The second theory (along doyles train of thought) comes to me after playting with some plastic multi tanked Husabergs in hot climates, with all the associated plumbing, breathers, fuel lines, different tank volumes AND FUEL INJECTION Not so much for heat dissapation... but the structural integrity of aluminium (and the fact that it does not breathe or expand as the plastic tanks tend to) may well be the HRC engineers idea towards solving the problem of fuel starvation/vapour lock/boiling fuel etc. when at high altitude/high temperatures that we have seen on some of the El dakar stages these last years? As it has always been a cornerstone of HRC's plan for this new CRF Rally project to run EFI, and we know that the bubbling/fuel expansion/airlock/boiling fuel issues of the last couple editions that commonly plague the multi tanked/different volumetric capacity tanks, plastic kit bikes (the FI husa's spring to mind again) then maybe the Aruminirum tank is the Japanese engineers ace in the hole* as far as getting the FI to work up at 20,000 ft cruising altitude...? ![]() Willing to forgo some of the advantages that plastic/nylon has over aluminium, for the sake of reliable engine management perhaps? ![]() *Then again... wasn't the "official" explanation of helders DNF in Marocco a "vapour rock" though...? ummm... you get those in the tank... not the engine... don't you?

HRC rear tanks...
This is the "Mariah Cary" edition of the CRF Rally kit; ![]() Sexy, high maintenance, superbly capable in the right hand and oh so expensive... ![]() ... but still extremely wide across the ass!

You guys are right. HRC just confirmed for me that the rear tanks are aluminum because they are easy to fabricate in a short time frame.
Also we had some discussion about the blocks on the ends of the swingarms when the bikes were first photographed in Peru. IIRC, HogWild had some awesome explanation about passive traction control devices. Well, I asked and they confirmed that they were nothing more than blocks to allow the use of road race style bike stands. Unobtanium.

They could've fitted an inline-four motor inside that fairing.
![]() That CRF kit loos like it has much more 'girth' then the HRC ones. |

I would rather have aluminum over plastic any day..My 450x puts off much more heat than the lc4, much more!! I'm supprised they dont have any type rubber dampening on the muffler straps as that would seem to conduct heat up toward the tank..

i'm surprised that the muffler and tank assy has so much room between each other.. yes.. i understand heat transfer, but the COG of the bike could have been much lower if the rear tanks were made thinner and 'lower'... again.. bench racing... but it is obvious that HRC has something behind the curtain... evidence the quick release mechanism at the top of the tanks... but.. i ain't saying nuttin about nuttin... 'cept honda kick ass in the dakar!!!! and.. check out the 'raceco' tool box!!! |

Has that exhaust system got 'crack and break' written all over it?
Or will those brackets take a 'lie down' I can't reconcile 'HRC' with hastily made and old technology. I understand the tanks are under development but shouldn't that all have been done a year back ? Don't you do your major learning before the race ? |
