Newby question on charging

If I want to temporarily hook up a charger to the battery directly do I need to disconnect to connections from the battery to the bike's electrical system? The battery is fine -- just want to top it up as I may not be riding for a few weeks. Thanks!

Don't need to unhook anything just connect the charger to the battery. But you should use a battery maintainer/tender type charger.

Most trickle chargers even come with a cable made to hook direct to the battery, with an inline fuse, and an SAE connector on one end (follow the directions so you get the right wire on the positive).

run this SAE cable out to daylight and put the fake tank cover back on Mine comes out behind the shroud on the LS up near the forks (little velcro strap to hold it in a safe place away from front end turning parts. I also use that same connector to power my tank bag, or a USA 12V adapter I plug one of my GPS's into. Some even run heated clothing off that connector.
