VW Confirms 400hp Production Hatch Back

I had an R32 and loved the zooty AWD drive performance but hated the appearance of the front end. Finally sold it simply because I could never could acquire a taste for such an ugly car in my stable. Hated to see it go but mostly just hated to see it.

They've since changed the jellybean look of the front end and made a much nicer looking car of it and now they announce that their R400 model is a go. 0-60 in under 4 seconds and a hatchback.

If this is low to mid $40's it would sure be tempting.

If it comes here that won't be the price. It'll be priced somewhere within reach of a Subie STi.

I doubt that. The Golf R and r32 have always been priced significantly higher than the Wrx. I would guess they will price it around $50kUS, our pricing here is usually a little cheaper than in Europe.

Sti price for that thing?

You'd have to be an idiot to think such things.

Not that it will ever come here.

+1

What are they going to do, cheapen down the interior by over $10K? Oops, I think I just made some VW engineer cum.

The $54,000 German price will include the VAT that we do not pay on cars in the US, so it would be cheaper here is sold here

The current Golf R is $36K and 300hp. For another $10K, I could see a lot more performance out of it.

Fuck that. Drop 28k for a loaded mark7 2015 GTI with the DSG tranny. 0-60 in well under 6 seconds, launch control, and more speed and handling than you deserve for under 30k. I love mine.

Hardly comparable, V6 Camry's do 0-60 in well under 6 seconds.

True, 5.8 seconds for both. But try taking a cloverleaf at 75mph in your Camry. Driving is a lot more than just 0-60 unless you're in a pissing contest.

And I can assure you that a awd 400hp Golf R400 is MUCH more fun to take a cloverleaf in that your 220hp fwd GTI, that is the point. They are not comparable cars.

A BRZ is more fun than both in a cloverleaf.

Keep in mind that's a very conservative German rating of 300bhp. Recently they dyno'ed a Mk7 GTI rated at 210 bhp (sae) and 258lb/ft of torque. The results were 263bhp and 314 lb/ft of torque. VW group severely underrate their cars performance.

I never said it will be priced the same as an STi. I said it would be within reach. With the STi limited starting at $38,495 I would figure the VW to start in the mid to upper 40's.

This, of course, assuming it ever gets here at all.
