Look what followed me home today...

Hee, hee

Obviously lots of work to do on this one, but a pretty good start! Runs fair, fat midrange, super fat top end. Gonna do a pressure/leakdown test, check the timing, and go through the carbs - it'll come together easy enough .

Guess I gotta add it to the sig file now too!

Exploration

Spent a few beers this evening digging through all the spares that came with it and looking at the bike. In addition to the Specll pipes, it has a Powerdynamo ignition/alternator system, some form of rearsets that could use some tidying and love, a 2-1 K&N air filter system, all balls tapered roller head bearings, new fork seals, a shit-load of jets, and a bunch of stock parts. Also got an extra engine and all the stock stuff that was taken off (seat, side covers, oil tank, fenders, pipes, pegs, etc).

It fires up and idles ok but is pretty fat and blubbery in the mid-range area and falls flat around 5,000 rpm. Almost acts like it drops a cylinder? Tomorrow I'll pull the pipes and carbs, do a leakdown test, then strip the carbs and go through them checking to see what kinda jetting is in there. Also want to check the timing, as it sounds like the Powerdynamo rotor is not keyed to the crank..? I've never had good luck running without a key on other bikes, so not sure why this should be any different...

Leave that MZB ignition alone! Mine slipped on me once, when the bike jumped out of 6th at WOT. Who knows how many revs it shot up to. If you lap the rotor to the crank taper with valve lapping grease, it won't ever slip. Some folks use sleeve retaining loctite for the purpose instead. If you key the rotor, you can no longer adjust the timing. Who did you buy that from? Looks like they put a lot into it. Mine was a lot like that when I got it. My PO had put thousands into hot rod parts, MZB, pipes, rear sets, Ikons, Avons, new top end, etc. A lot of money spent, but never really got it well sorted.Too bad for him, he didn't know enough to get it jetted in, so it ran like dogshit. It took me awhile to get mine running well, and would have run out of patience without the folks who frequent 2strokeworld.com. I wonder what you paid for that bike. Seeing it makes me want to get another one.

Yep, that's Tucker, my 8 month old Border Collie. She's just like me - semi-intelligent (actually far too smart for her own good), and has a super-short attention span. She cannot concentrate on any one thing for more than a few minutes before she flits off in another direction. Unable to sit still or relax, she usually winds up in trouble or get's sent outside to entertain herself (not always a good plan).

She replaced Skipper, my 13 year old male that I had to put down back in May . We are kindred spirits. If she was a human, she'd have 30 motorcycles too..!!

I bought it from a local guy - it showed up on Craigslist and I knew I had to have it. $1,000 later and it was all mine. Mighta paid a little too much for it, but it has enough aftermarket parts (pipes, ignition, rearsets, carbs, intake, bars, mirrors, tires, etc) to add up to far more than that, plus the bike.

A wise man once told me, "you can't put a price on cool". Warped logic and advice like that has pretty much kept me pennyless ever since...
